Is there a cheaper alternative to a background like this? I want something preferably illuminated so that the subject can stand close without causing shadows and which can be folded down.
Ideally attach a a bottom train/sheet to have that all white scene.

Thanks

Yep, FITP used to do one although I've a feeling he may have stopped supplying them. I have a Hilite that is handy as a portable b/ground in tight spaces, but I personally wouldn't use it with a train for full body shots. Difficult to get right, and nothing looks worse imo than images taken with a properly lit tent and a visible (i.e. not properly lit) train. I use paper when full body shots are required.

Oh right I saw a pro using one at a baby show the other day he had a shiny paper or vinyl white train.
Photos looked good.

Any idea where to buy an alternative or a cheap used hilite lastolite?

Hilites are brilliant, but their main advantage is space saving, ie you can use them in a normal front room and get a quality clean white result - almost impossible with a normal background when it's tight all round.

But if you have the space, it's arguably easier to get full-length white using paper/vinyl.

Does anybody use a HiLite as a main light source ?
If so, I would love to see some pictures as a massive softbox would give wonderfully soft light for portraits...

I think Mr Cleghorn may have done a demo of this on the Lastolite training site...

it would, but it would also be a pig to move around, and I think you'd be better with a big Octa
