No
I see that the Dutch company Spyker have renewed their bid at the 11th hour to save SAAB, I hope they're successful in removing the company from the dreadful GM "folks". Having owned a few SAAB's I think it would be a great shame if the marque just disappeared. Good luck for the 3'500 people employed in Trollhatten too.

Hope it goes through this time......did they pull out because GM solld some tooling to the Japanese or was that Koenig

Not sure dangermouse, I think the Chinese were getting technology not tooling. Sorry to hear about your hood/window troubles hope you get it sorted. Mine including the present 93 1.9 TiD have all been tin roof versions.

Last chance for Saab?? :(

I haven't seen the news this weekend, what have I missed?

Grendel, unless General Motors find a buyer in the next week SAAB has ceased to be, it is a late car manufacturer.

That's tragic news :( I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Saab

/Going off the find the news on 'tinterweb

I really really hope that SAAB gets through their present difficulty. I have a 9-3 Aero 1.9TTid which is without doubt the most comfortable, economic and responsive vehicle that I have ever owned and with every toy imaginable. When I replace it, I would want my next car to be another SAAB.

Good to hear from you barrypriddis I thought I was the only SAAB fan left! I've owned two or three of the rather obvious German marques but much prefer SAAB.

A really sad day, we have owned 3 SAABs, best cars we have ever had.

Sports Car maker called Spyker Cars made an offer to GM and wants to buy SAAB

Is it just the car business at risk or is the Scania truck business and the aircraft business included as well?

Steve.

I dont think its actually a buy out more of Spyker accept the £400m debts

Is there any time scale where we will be able to see if its been saved?

General Motors deadline for concluding a deal is December 31. The Spyker offer for SAAB expires tonight at 22:00GMT so hopefully there will be some news today one way or another on that deal.

Really really hoping Spyker are successful. With so many bland vehicles around it would be a tragedy if SAAB were to end production.

It would be nice to see some real SAABs again, not the dressed up Vauxhall/Opels of late.....

GM are scumbags, earlier this year their was all that uproar over the government supposedly helping them out financially and GM didnt even promise they would keep Ellesmere Port open..... (then again you'd have thought that our government would insist on that as part of the deal, but then again....)

GM extends Saab deadline
31/12/2009

Swedish car maker Saab has been given a last-minute reprieve by owner General Motors (GM), as a Dutch sports car manufacturer continues its efforts to buy the brand.

GM had previously set a deadline of midday on 30 December for Spyker Cars - one-time makers of fighter aircraft - to raise the necessary funds to buy Saab. However, this deadline is now reported to have been extended to 7 January 2010, as Spyker seeks funding within the Netherlands and Russia.

Meanwhile, GM has announced that it is resuming limited production at Saab to fulfil orders for the new 9-5 and convertible 9-3 models.

Quoted in Autocar, a Saab spokesperson said "We are preparing a wind-down process. At the same time we are open to options to bids that come in."

After GM announced on 18 December its intention to wind up Saab, the company confirmed that it had received "several" enquiries about the marque. Potential buyers are thought to include Merbanco, a Wyoming-based group of private investors first linked with the brand earlier in 2009.

Spyker's CEO, Victor R. Muller, said before Christmas that the company's bid was motivated by "our passion for saving an iconic brand that we would be honoured to shepherd".

Spyker explained that it hoped to benefit from Saab's engineering, research and distribution facilities, in return for providing entrepreneurial leadership "sensitive to the uniqueness, heritage and individuality of the Saab brand".

Saab Automobile was formed as the offshoot of an aeroplane manufacturer, produced its first passenger car in 1947, and is credited with several technological innovations - notably in relation to turbocharging. It remains separate from the modern-day Saab aerospace company.

I was thinking why would Spyker Cars want an aircraft company ??

Spyker are not interested in the Aircraft or the Scania brands they only want the car or more the name brand to put on their own cars but not the Spyker supercars they will remain as Spyker, basically they are trying to keep the marque alive and like any business make some money from it

Have to agree the V4s though were stunning motors:thumbs:

That is the 3 cylinder two stroke 92/93 mate, the V4`s went in the 96`s. I have had both along with a few 99`s and 900`s,cracking cars.

The company under threat is SAAB Automobile, they have no more to do with the aircraft manufacturer than Rolls Royce the car manufacturer have to do with the aero engine manufacturer of the same name.

Do Saab still own Scania Trucks?

Do Saab still own Scania Trucks?

Nope, the whole thing was split in '95, with the car division becoming SAAB Automobile, the truck division Scania AB and the aircraft manufacturer SAAB AB - part owned by that other "saviour" of the British motor Industry BAe Systems :shake:

I cant see GM letting the brand name SAAB go to Bernie and a brand no one has heard of
Genii ........ who are they, at least people who know cars know that Spyker make a very interesting supercar/s so who are GENII and will GM sell the brand name.
My assuption is GM will refuse to sell, after all every brand they have bought and killed of they refuse to sell the actual brand name, SAAB is now history

Genii are now running Renault F1, Ecclestones businesses are usually winners so it would be a good deal. Spyker are a small manufacturer, they left F1 because they couldnt afford to be in it. GM sold a lot of the assests of saab to the asian car makers, so not sure what is left to buy?
