This is going to take some explaining but hope some one will understand.

In CS5, Using the lasso tool, lassoing my subject, then into layers changing the curves, then to thee rubber tool to take some parts of the subject back to the original (such as cleaning the edges), but it won't let me, instead it just darkens the area outside the lasso area.

When in CS2 performing the same as above i can rub out parts of the lassoed area back to its original.
Cannot seem to understand why it works in CS2 and not in CS5

Can anyone offer any guidence to perhaps settings..

Not exactly sure what you mean, the eraser tool will erase to black if the black/white colour boxes have the black as a background colour.
Have you got the selection inverted? or what blend modes have you got on the layers?

Hi Wayne, thanks for the reply, i find it hard to explain but have used two images below. Both lassoed, up the curves then use of the rubber.which can be seen on the left side of the images.
The images are just rough useage and an idea of what i want to achieve in PS CS5 which can be done in PS CS2. It might well be something to do with "invert".

Regards..

It's only a guess but your not working on the layer mask as opposed to the actual image are you? A curves ajustment layer adds a mask by default.

I don't think so.
In CS5 this is how i go about it all.

Lasso the area
Layer- new adjustment Layer.
Untick or ticking " create Clipping mask" makes no difference.
Adjust curves.
Click Rubber.
But i can only work on the outer part of the lassoed area and not within as i can in PS CS2...

Thanks for the help and will understand if you are confused.
Confused .com comes to mind
