I don't believe it!!

Well actually I do because it's the same as happened last time I was in this situation!!

My Brother laser printer needs a new toner - £48 + VAT thank you very much.
Could do with a new drum too - £56 + VAT.

Buy a whole new printer (complete with new toner and drum) - the current version of the one I have now - £43 + VAT.

Really doesn't sit right with me getting rid of a perfectly good machine because of the relative cost of consumables but to me it's a no-brainer!

Can't even give it to a charity or the like - they'd end up spending just as much keeping the thing going - would cost them more than buying something new.

Aaargh!! Rant over.........
 
Welcome to the world where companies sell printers as loss leaders for selling ink.........
 
The toner cartridge in a new printer will have a 'low fill' compared to a replacement. Roughly 2000 pages compared to 5000.

Still a ripoff though.
 
You do get much less in a toner than comes with the printer than when you purchase one separately. It definitely is still a rip off. However, have a look for a third party one, they are usually about a third of the price depending on what printer you have.
 
Yup - know about the "slim-line" toner supplied with new printers - standard trick with some inkjets too......

Looked at the third party option - even with those the toner + drum combination is still the same cost near as dammit to the new printer.

Ho hum - looks like a trip to Staples for the new printer in the morning and dropping the old one off at the local recycling place in the afternoon...........
 
Make sure you research the cost of toners for the new printer before purchase, will save you from being in this same position again!
