I've got to a point where I feel it would be cost effective for me to consider buying a large format printer. I need to produce a number of smallish wrapped canvases for a particular project and am often being asked for canvases and large prints and feel that I could get close to earning enough money out of it to justify the cost.

A few newbie questions if anyone can help...

Are they fairly straightforward for a novice to set up, calibrate and operate?

What size wrapped canvases could I produce from a 24 inch printer?

What would be the ballpark materials cost (ie. paper and ink) of producing a single 24 inch wide canvas print for wrapping or box mounting?

I'm looking at the Canon iPF6100... Is this a good choice? How far is it into the product cycle and is it likely to be upgraded/replaced any time soon?

I've avoided looking at the Epson seried as I'm put off by the need to change black inks for different media, particularly as it would get only relatively light use... is that a bad decision and is the K3 black ink issue not as problematic as it sounds or should I stick to the Canon?

Any other brands to consider?

I'd be eternally grateful for any advice... My system, if it helps, is PC (newish quad core thingy), Vista, LR and CS4, monitors calibrated by Huey Pro, budget for printer up to in the region of £2K.

TIA
