Looking for a laptop for £500 max with reasonable performance, the lenovo Sl 510 and G 550 have good reviews, does anybody own one or any suggestions?

I'd go for a used MacBook.

Unless you need the portability of a macbook, you'll get much better performance for your money in the PC world.
