Hi,

I would like to buy a laptop specifically for photography, I thought about upgrading my photographic equipment but have decided against it for the time being. You see I share a laptop with my husband and my daughter so trying to download and edit my photographs can be a bit of a fight!:bat:

I could buy an Apple 13" Macbook Pro with Retina Display, Dual-Core i5 2.5GHz processor and 256GH Flash Storage and 8GB memory for a little over £1000 but I am not sure if this is the right laptop to go for, and it is a little over my budget of £750. I could sweet talk my husband for the rest but only if I had to!!
I hear a lot about this laptop but would not want to pay extra just for a name if I could get the equivalent cheaper!!

I would like it to be light and portable as I plan on taking it to Canada with me when we go in June/July but it is not an absolute necessity.

I use PaintShop Pro X5 so do not need anything with a photo editing suite already installed.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers Carol

There are a few threads on this just here - just have alook at the threads around this one.

Corel doesn't run on a Mac BTW.

Hi Andy thank you for that piece of information, I will look at the threads now that I can rule out MacBook!

Regards Carol

You may need to check compatibility with your version of Corel against any new OS. IE. Windows 8..

Thanks Steve I will do that.

Hi Daugirdas,

I don't think Corel products are compatible with Mac. (According to Andy - See post above)

That's never stopped Daugirdas from recommending one.... All roads lead to Apple according to him...;)

Hi Carol,

By all means go into a shop and try laptops and see how they feel for you. I've purchased a few laptops in the past and the keyboards just didn't suit me so I never used them.

I know that if you spend more money - generally the better the laptop you are getting. This isn't always true though so be careful. You can buy a laptop for £700 and it having the same specs as one only costing £400. So really it's a case of looking carefully at specifications.

Have a look at reviews on websites because often people will state what they use the laptop for - whether it is for gaming, photo editing etc.

I have always personally preferred Mac over Windows when it comes to image editing etc. I always think of Windows as being made for gaming and office work (don't know why I made that association though).

Good luck! =]

Thanks for your advice will look carefully and check out reviews before committing myself to buying one.

Have a look at here I get all my computer/tablet stuff from these. Super service.

Agree about going in the shops and having a look just because after specifications, having a good screen is really important
you will be also looking at you pics not just editing them:)

Well thanks for all your help but I think I am going to go for a Samsung series 3 notebook 15.6 inch screen, 6gb memory and 1tb. It is light enough to carry about has an anti glare screen and is compatible with Corel products which I am in the habit of using.

Also the price is very good which will allow me to purchase a Seagate 1tb external hard drive for storage (which is on offer at the moment).

Once again thanks for your advice it is/was very much appreciated.
