Hi everyone this is my first post so here goes.

I will be throwing myself into to the big wide world next year when I will be going travelling around South East Asia and Australia for a few years. I'm wanting to take a laptop that's practical so a netbook or ultra book. I will be backing up my photos on line so won't need extensive memory however I will be using it for photoshop CS6 or Elements haven't decided yet. So will need to be able to handle this it will only be light editing to go on my blog while I'm out there. Battery life will need to be decent as well. I have no idea where to start looking in terms of what can handle photoshop on smaller laptops. Budget is around £600. Any help and advice would be extremely grateful.

Thank you in advance.

Add to your list of requirements something with a world wide warranty, last thing you want to do is send it back to the UK to have it fixed if the need arises. So, look at the more established makes, HP, Lenovo, Dell etc and check before you buy.

No idea what your budget it, but if you are travellng extensively, and particularly if you fond yourself in rough places, with hard travelling, something from the Panasonic Toughbook range would be worth a look.

I'd look at the Microsoft Surface - either a Core i5 Surface 2 or the newly announced Core i3 Surface 3 - both are around the £600 mark.

Use an external USB3 drive for a local RAW copy (or full size JPEG) and use the on-line backup for your processed JPEGS - you should be spending more time taking photos than uploading them over a dodgy WiFi connection!

They're small, light and with an OK battery life with a metal shell, should be quite robust.

Cheers for the responses guys. Surface looks good as I can use it as a tablet aswell but the screen isn't 13" and I think that really is my limit if I'm doing editing. Or you reckon I would be ok? I've been looking at refurbished MBP's which I think I will be going for. Anyone else use photoshop on a ultra book or netbook? Just worried about the speed
