Hi

I'm looking for a laptop at the moment as I don't have the space indoors currently for a big tower and I need something somewhat mobile.
I'm going to get a desktop next year.

I was just wondering what people would recommend or if there are any models I should look at.
Budget is around 1000 to 1200.
What spec do I need? So far it seems i7 16gb and an ssd and a good screen.
Are there any I should look at or avoid.

I have a thread about this a few down....
I didn't have your budget but reading the internet, most will be biased towards Apple. I bought a Lenovo 510 15.6" with an i5, 8gb RAM, 1TB HDD and a dedicated NVIDIA graphics card. Screen is a nice HD one. I've installed NIK EFEX and Lighzone and its running sweet. £500.
The i7 version IS £100 more. Or, there's a 510S which has a 14" screen and a 256 GB SSD drive, but a lesser IRIS graphics card.
I'm sure you can get an i7 with an SSD for your money. I was advised to stay away from inbuilt INTEL graphics.

Would the Dell xps 15 with 4k screen be a good choice. Or is there something better bang for buck

If you can get one from the outlet then yes, they are excellent for performance and value - I have a 9530 version, and the screen is really good, plus it works well plugged into an external monitor for processing on a bigger screen.
