Laptop for Editing......on a budget

We are redecorating and trying to de-clutter so I am rethinking my computing setup. My desktop is ready for an upgrade so im considering going down the laptop route to free up some space. It will mainly be used for light photoshop and lightroom use. it will be in easy raech of a wall mounted tv so a hdmi out would also be an advantage. I'm not exactly flush with money so, and I know it's quite a big ask, was thinking of £500 max....

...im totally out of touch with laptops so would like some advice and/or ideas!!! Any brands to avoid or ones that offer great VFM?

Check out Radio Shack for 2nd hand laptops with guarantees.
I've used them over the last few years and have been very pleased with them.
I bought a laptop last year for my daughter from them- I5 processor 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, 15.6 inch screen with a six month guarantee for £290.
You can try one out for a week and take it back if you are not happy- good service.
The stock of second hand laptops changes from week to week, so you just have to see what is available and wait if necessary.

Weird. I looked earlier and it came up as a UK site. Just tried a minute ago and it goes directly to the US.

I hate laptops for editing. The angle of the screen is just so critical.

Main editing machine is a desktop - I very rarely carry a laptop oir edit on one.
 
Hmm, might just upgrade the desktop and save some cash :) would be nice to have something that you can essential pack away out of sight, but it's weighing up the pros and cons
 
I'm looking for something similar at the moment - the Lenovo G510's got a great processor in it to do the legwork.
Screen's not so great, but at home I'll just plug it into a decent monitor...best of both worlds.
 
I got a cheap macbook with 3GB ram and 2.13ghz processor and 250gb SSD doesn't sound the best specs but runs like a dream and holds great charge, Losing about 40% for a hole footy much without turning it off with Photoshop and View NX2 running all the time and only cost me £360 and comes with 3 month warranty! A great buy if you ask me :)
