Laptop and card reader

For the first time yesterday when I insert the card reader it doesn't register and I get intermittent bleep noises, Any help to diagnose fault and remedy greatly appreciated.

Use device manager, check device is enabled, if it won't enable update the drivers and try again.

I'm assuming its a USB reader? Do you get a beep or sound why you plug it in and then again when you pull it out? That would show its being recognised.

If its seeing then reader, you should also see some drives listed in your "my computer". Have you another reader you could try or alternatively, your reader in another computer,

Sometimes on my readers in the past I have had to push them in and out of the usb slot several times before the pc recognises them properly

Thanks for tips. Ended up downloading direct from camera.The bleep is on putting in and then regular, but haven't tried device manager yet.
and yes it's a usb reader
