laptop advice

If all you want to do is run elements 5 and a few other things then yes it will be fine.
Perhaps looking for a laptop with 2MB cache memory would aid you a little better. You can get a higher spec laptop for around the same price as this. Look for a make of laptop called "ACER", they have good spec and a usually far cheaper than the big names.

I hope i have not confused you more!

looks OK but I would upgrade RAM to 2GB. Does it have an OS? Doesn't mention it on that link!

os? wassat??

i also want to connect to the net.

If it's running Vista, 1Gb will mean the machine struggles when using hefty programs.

I would upgrade the RAM to 2Gb and it'd be okay. Core 2 Duo are far far better chips than the Dual Core ones, but it's competent enough for people that aren't going to stress their systems too much and don't mind reduced battery life

Cheers,
James

operating system - it doesn't say whether it has XP or Vista or neither!

OS = Operating System, I don't think that machine is supplied with one, the bit at the top "Currys recommend...." leads me to think that. Apart from that I reckon it's a good machine for most uses except maybe the heaviest graphics processing.

ram = memory??

whats the cache??

These are things you really should know about moojii, I suggest some googling.

To start you off, RAM generally means the main memory that the pc/laptop uses, in this case 2gb. Some of that memory may be used for the display (usually the case on cheaper laptops) more is better.

Cache is also memory but it's part of the main processor chip and dedicated to that, the more cache memory the better and you'll often see level one and level two mentioned. The processor works something out, sends it to the level one cache, when the level one cache has enough somethings it sends them to the level two cache and from there they go into main memory (all millions of times a second)

cheers guys.

also need a printer with battery able to print 7x5.
liked the look of the selphy es1 but only prints 6x4
