Edit My Images
Yes
HI all,

My lappy always downloads in low res when on the web and they look god awful. Where can I change that please?

I use firefox btw but was the same in IE7.....

Pete.

You using AOL? If so there's some settings in the AOL software that compress images as they're downloaded and they come out fuzzy.

If you aren't on AOL, I dunno.

Pete,

Not that I know for sure, but have a poke around the power saving settings. I know my lappy goes into a low res and low light mode when its powered by battery only. Could just be some power saving thing going on there.

Both IE and FFx have preference settings to resize jpegs so that they fit on screen images.

FFx -> Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Resize Large Images (untick)

IE similar but it is sneaked away on the prefs menu... seek and ye shall find (with any luck)

what's your internet connection? you're not a on a 3g card are you?

You're not using that "onspeed" thing are you? The "proxy" service that compresses everything to save bandwidth. I believe there are options in their software that let you choose the amount to ruin pictures by, err I mean, compress by.

Otherwise I've never heard of browsers downloading a low res version of a jpeg on the fly. It can't, because for the browser to resize the file, it would have had to download the whole thing first. Hmm strange. It's not the graphics card settings in Windows that is set to some low bit depth is it?

Update your graphics card drivers and also check in the registry that

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Main>UseHR
needs to be changed to '0' (instead of default '1')

be careful editing registry!
