I have an acer laptop that got hot turned it's self off now. I let it cool down but it kept trying to start even with the lid closed. I took the battery out and on replacing it same thing trys to start then shuts down again. Any one out there that could have an idea how to fix it? Thank you in advance

when it tries to start up again hold the power button until it turns off.

then let it cool down and try again. sounds like the heatsink might be jammed full of dust/fluff/etc. that normally comes to light in this sort of weather. or depending on the age of the machine the thermal compound between the processor and heatsink may have degraded.

Thanks Neil I have taken the battery out and leaving it have got dust out (maybe not all of it) it just keeps trying start then stops again. Would it be expensive to fix do you think ??

"Laptop" is more of a nickname, they're portable computers.

The nickname has lead to many people laying them on their lap, blocking the air vents and overheating them. Often the same people that call the PSU a "charger".

In the case of OP it sounds like something has gone pop.

Does it look like a blue screen flashes up before rebooting?

No black screen that says Acer press F2 to enter set up but nothing happens and just turns off.

Thanks i gathered something has gone wrong i just don't know what.

^^ If you hit F2, does it go to bios?

Worth checking the system time hasn't reset, this (caused by dead cmos battery) can sometimes stop a laptop from starting.

No i press f2 nothing happens and it just turns off again then tries to restart again

Try removing the HDD, give it a dust off and refit.

Also just make sure the power jack isn't loose.

This one of those "could be anything" faults :(

think i will have to get it looked at i have no idea what i am doing by opening it up.. thank you for taking the time to help
