I'm looking at getting a event printer such as the up dr150, but don't know what watt it uses. I can see that the consumption on those is between 2.5 and 5A which is up to 1300W if my maths are correct.

Can anyone who has the dr150 have a look and see if it says anything please? Or anyone that runs a genny at a show like this for this reason?

Thanks!

The 5A will be relating to running at 100V input, the actual maximum current drawn will be much closer to 2.5A on our 240V system, and that will be a worst case thing. For a generator that will require the smallest of the small, a 1kva unit would do the job. The issue at that size is stability. Not knowign a lot about how dye-sub printers work, I suspect their power draw is quite 'peaky' and this can upset the regulation on smaller generators. Also, cheap generators produce really poor quality power anyway, and could cause damage to the laptop and printer, so that is probably the biggest consideration. The honda eu range have a good reputation in this respect. They also have nice reliable engines. I'd recommend that whatever you get, you stick a nice steady resistive load on it, such as a 150-300W halogen bulb, as this base load helps to stabilise the generator. They are much better at going from 20% draw to 80%, than 0% to 80%.

you will need a pure sin wave gennie sunch as the Honda eu range or a cheaper Kipor ig range, there are others out there but a lot of people use the honda if they can afford it or the Kipor as a second best. a 1000 watt will work but for the extra £ i would go for a 2000 watt...

I am also looking at buying a gennie shortly to run my dye sub and mac and have pretty much decided on the Kipor ig2000...

Nice one thanks for the info guys!
