The Tokina 11-16mm seems to get the most thumbs up. 99.99999999% of the time.
My finger has been hovering over the buy button for weeks.
After watching a few thread on here, I finally hit the buy button yesterday. Can't wait for it to arrive![]()
The EF-S 10-22 is indeed an excellent lens.![]()
you dont ''need'' a UWA for landscapes
have a read................''here''................Ken Rockwell (c)
there's a member here who does superb Scottish Landscapes ..cannot remember his name [old age.] be interesting to check out the focal lengths on exif
Im after a landscape lens to improve my landscape shots and find the kit lens is't wide enough, But that link is a good read!
Any one else wish to share there thoughts?
I use the excellent Sigma 10-20 f3.5 and would recommend, but you don't need a super wide lens for landscapes TBH.
ANY lens is a landscape lens!
I've taken Landscapes with my 10-22mm, 50mm, 35mm, 85mm, 18-135mm and 70-200mm.
The 10-22 requires a lot of thinking to get effective landscape shots and you need a lot of foreground interest.
You should be able to get decent ones from your kit lens at tight apertures.
Simply going wider isn't going to improve your shots unless you know what you're doing.
The beauty of UWA's is (like Mr. Ken talk about, this is one of the very few occasions where I think he is actually talking sense) that they let you include foreground interest with sweeping backgrounds, which is a superb effect when you do it properly.
If you just try to fit more landscape in, you're shots won't really improve, you'll just have more bits either side.
I agree - I have the very same lens

Whilst ultra wide lenses have their uses, I usually find something a little longer is more effective when you want to see detail (that hut in a field for example). Saying that, having an uwa was very useful in New York![]()
Oops ebay's dangerous. just got a Nikon 12-24 f4 for just over £400. At least I should break even if I dont get on with it
