Hi everyone Looking into lenses for Landscape Photography, some photography magazines say 'Wide-angle lenses and ultra-wide lenses are good for landscapes.' Whats the difference between Wide-angle and ultra wide-angle lenses?' Sorry for asking a stupid question lol. Are there lenses you can get that are good for Landscapes, Pet potraits and Product Photography? (a company have asked me to photograph pet food for there website and magazine) Any advice, much appreciated, thanks :).

If it smells anything like my cat's Whiskas, then I recommend a lens that allows you to stand back as far as possible

Lol, thanks for the tip, the pet food is in tins and pouches, dogs and cats can smell the food but can't eat it cos the food's in packets lol (I have a dog and he went over to the box to smell the pet food lol) :)

I do mainly landscapes and use focal lengths in the range 24mm to 200 on full frame; I also carry a x1.4 converter. I rarely go wider than 24, but when I was using a cropped sensor 40D, I would go up to the limit of my telephoto zoom = 320mm.

Don't restrict yourself to wide-angles when doing landscapes!

if i was you i would go for an all round lens like a 17-50. wide angle is anything below 35mm but ultra wide is like a 10-20mm .

Hi Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it!!! Have you heard of the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens? Been reading reviews about the lens on Amazon, it sounds like a good lens for Landscapes and potraits. Is it ok to order lenses from Amazon? Sorry for asking a stupid question lol, haven't ordered lenses from Amazon before :)

Hi Thanks for the advice on focal lengths for Landscapes, really appreciate it :)!!!! Been reading reviews about the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens on Amazon,it sounds like a good lens for Landscapes and potraits. It sounds like a good lens to replace the kit lens that came with the camera. Sometimes I use my telephoto lens for Landscapes too, I have a Canon zoom lens 90-300mm, I use that lens when I go to Ashridge Woods, it helps with framing and helps to get detail of the trees.

On a crop sensor body the 50mm would be 80mm - a short telephoto, said to be perfect for portraits.

I'd go for a zoom if I was you. Very good for tight compositions and exact framing.
