Thanks very much! haha yeah itd be a fly drive to Nice or Grenoble from Gatwick. Car is so cheap at the airportMy initial replies relate to focusing and metering.
Assuming that you are composing the self same scene as in the print that you link to then I reckon that focusing at infinity will be fine.
As for using movements to get all in focus with LF, unless you put subject matter close by in the frame then I doubt that you’ll need movements tbh.
The exception being if you have to tilt the camera then a redress may be needed though it’s less of an issue with landscapes than architecture ( think converging verticals).
As for metering, assuming that you’re located in similar light values to the scene itself, I would simply take a reflective reading off the palm of my hand and open up a stop.
You are right about brightness down here in summertime so an ND may prove useful for your planned motion shots.
As you say there is a little planning to do but try not to get hooked up on trying to make it perfect. Often the best of plans don’t go as planned !!
Better imo to simply enjoy the day and have fun obtaining some pleasing exposures.
Out of curiosity, are you flying to Nice then driving up?
If so then I’ll wait at my front door for you as you pass so be sure to keep some space available in the boot for another LF outfit![]()
Ah amzing well if the french are happy to hand check then I can return with my film! thanks for all the help. Now I just need to find a good spot!Coming back to you with more thoughts on some other points that you mention.
I suspect that given the time of day , there will be a high contrast level with some deep shadows so perhaps little need to add more with filters if bo sky to be concerned about ( it might be an idea to assess from what direction the sun will be shining from at the time that you plan to capture your shots and ensure that your chosen location favours well to avoid flare etc)
Perhaps consider a yellow just to keep an edge ( for want of a better expression) as opposed to orange which may prove too much.
I think that’s what I would probably go with but it really depends on how you want your negs to turn out.
Travelling with film now is I believe becoming increasingly difficult due to x ray equipment giving deeper scans.
Although I’ve never experienced problems taking film as hand luggage, when I last travelled between Nice and Gatwick in 2019 I requested a hand search .
The French were happy to oblige, the English , surprisingly , less pleased at the idea !
French labs I have no idea !
Tbh I’d advise returning to the uk with your exposed film and using a reputable lab that you already know or one recommended by other filmies in TP.
I can try obtain some recommendations at this end for you if you really wish to go down that route.
Gotta love those french. it was taken on the Col du Solude!Coming back to you with more thoughts on some other points that you mention.
