The BoBMF was doing a fly past of St Paul's today, but I'm not certain what time they were due over.

Edit: it was 12:35!

Wife ran me at lunchtime, my son got very excited as it flew over as he loves the model lancaster he has (is 2 years 4 months) and for the last 2 months has been able to tell the difference between a Spitfire and a Hurricane!!
 
Would be great if someone captured a photo of it. Here's hoping.

Found the route on the BBMF website..

RAF Coningsby direct to 3NM north of Peterborough, direct 5NM northwest of Cambridge, direct Fowl Mere, direct Ware, direct 2NM of North Brentwood, direct East Ham, direct St Paul's Cathedral, direct Ware and return reciprocal route.

There are only two airworthy WW2 Lancasters still in existence. The other one is in Canada.
 
I was gutted the other day. I saw one flying over Bracknell. I was too late to catch it.
Fantastic looking plane, I love seeing them fly
 
I live on the outskirts of Bletchley about a mile from Bletchley Park (home fo the code breakers?). Every now and then, about three times a year, we get the Lancaster fly right over the top of us as it does a fly past. Sometimes it is escorted by the Spitfire and Hurricane.

<SoapBoxMode> I love those three aircraft and I say hang the cost. Get the plans back out and build a few more from scratch and preserve our heritage.<SoapBoxMode/> :D

Last weekend it flew so low over our house we could almost see the individual rivets on it. Sadly by the time I realised what was happening it was too late for the camera!! :'(

Hadn't realised they had got the Canadian one back up in the air. Looking further there are 2 more that are under restoration to airworthiness; 1 in Canada and 1 in the UK.

Really good news that there are people trying to get these back into the air :clap:
 
I'd rather see a Shackleton than a second Lanc in the air..

.. but there's a limit to how many of these elderly aircraft we can keep going, at some point something critical will need replacing.

If it remains in the air indefinitely we'll eventually have to rename the BBMF Lancaster Trigger's Broom.. three new wings, two new fuselages and six new engines.. but it's still the same aircraft that started out during the war..
