One of our team was in Grasmere last weekend and they said it was beautiful.

We're already a week on so I'd say go for it! Whereabouts are you planning on visiting?

keswick area & buttermere, thanks for the infomation colin

Don't leave it much later than the end of October for the best of the autumn colours. Changing quickly this year and leaves dropping quicker too. Of course, you'll still have the wonderful scenery after that!

Keswick is beautiful and I'd highly recommend (if you're able) to walk the whole shore line round Derwentwater - it's lovely at this time of year.

A bit South of Keswick but only 10min is the Loughrigg Terrace walk along Grasmere and Rydal water (and Rydal cave). Some stunning Autumn views from the terrace over Rydal and Grasmere. Big car park off the main road at Rydal - or car parking at Pelter bridge at the Rydal end.

THanks very much for the info. I am going to visit tomorrow ( sunday) planning to arrive before sunrise & leaving after sunset. Have a new d800 to get started with, so hoping for a good day out . thanks again colin.

I forgot about Loughrigg Terrace, you can actually walk to it from Grasmere village (I think it's about an hour walk).

Fantastic views on a clear day for an easily accessible location.

Plus there's some great places to have lunch in Grasmere afterwards (try Tweedies Bar).
