Lake District Musts

Hi all,

I'm spending a few days in the Lakes next weekend, to do a bit of walking and biking. We're riding around Grizedale forest one day (bits of the trailcentre interspersed with natural stuff) and I reckon I'll do either Hellvellyn or Scafell one day, what else / where else should I go? Good views would be nice, I don't mind walking a decent distance / height and scrambling a bit.

Helvellyn is a more interesting/challenging walk than Sca Fell Pike, so that'd be my pick for starters.

My favourite 'big fell' is Great Gable, as you get a brilliant view back down the Wasdale valley from the top.

I'm only back from the lakes.

I'd recommend the area south of Keswick near Borrowdale, I was only driving through and didn't make any great attempt at climbing the hills, but that area is really beautiful.

personally if i were you id ditch grizedale for the biking and head up to keswick instead, maybe do part of the borrowdale bash (or the full loop!), stunning vistas over the lake and great riding too

Ullswater - amazing place with good terrain around it and some great waterfalls surrounding it. Plus, you have the Ullswater steamers, which are good if a little 'touristy'.

Sca fell is awesome too. If you're up that way go to the Old Dungeon Ghyl pub - proper walkers joint and set in awesome scenery.

I would agree Helvellyn is more interesting than Sca fell but it is a far less challenging outing
