Hi we have booked a motorhome for middle October mainly to do landscape photography and would like some help with places to go in Lake district please:)

Gary

Tarn hows is a place to go although check out the Drunken Duck Pub great food plus thats probably as far as you can get with a motorhome. Rydal, Elterwater

Some of the roads I would send you on are a little on the small size, what size is the Motorhome ?

I believe it is a small two berth (sunseeker) so hopefully should be ok

I know it may be a bit commercial but you will get some great shots over Conniston Water and I found the Pencil Museum to be particularly interesting (but maybe that is just me being a bit of a geek???)

Have a good holiday

Ulswater is stunning, a favourite of mine is waswater especially first thing in a morning, ashness bridge south of Keswick is a stunner too but you may struggle getting over it with even a small motorhome.

Thanks Cason

If you're up at Ullswater I'd recommend Aira Force Waterfall down the south end of the lake...got some cracking shots there last autumn :)

Wastwater is a must, arguably Britains most beautiful place

If I remember correctly if you use the official car park for this it costs a fortune. Last time I was up that way, many years ago, you could access it from a footpath opposite a layby and avoid the extortionate parking charges.

going to keswick and cat bells tomorrow weather permitting
cheers

National Trust members get to use NT car parks for free

Are you only open to places which are accessible to your motorhome?

How about a bit of hill walking?

Any particular types of landscapes you're hoping to get?

How much is the car park?

If you fancy having a go at a pano, I can recommend a fantastic viewpoint, just outside Keswick.

If you park you motorhome at the old Keswick railway station car park, there is a circular walk, starting at the station, of approx 4-5 miles, along the old Keswick-Penrith railway line.
First 3 miles are along fairly even paths, partly old track bed and bridges crossing the River Greta.
You then turn to walk up towards the summit of Latrigg.
Its not to high, but the views, especially on a clear day are tremendous.
Derwentwater and Borrowdale to the south,Whinlatter to the west and Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite to the north.

From the bench at the summit of Latrigg, you get sweeping uninterupted views of all the above, with a view of Keswick, below you.

For walk details just do a search with Latrigg and Walks and it should come up with plenty of routes.

Enjoy the Lakes - heaven on earth !!!

Cheers

Hill walking is OK but not mountaineering not as young as i used to be :)
not after any type landscape other then usual early morning mist on one of the lakes and if lucky enough to catch a nice sky ;) and some nice reflections in the lakes, waterfalls would be good also maybe after more then I thought??

If you're as lucky with the weather as I was then Catbells can be good for catching the early morning mist.

Aira Force would be the obvious choice for a waterfall location. There are some smaller ones around Buttermere too. Not sure where else, though.

Hi Guys thanks for the info given me lots to think about more then enough for one weeks holiday

Gary

We might have some snow by then.

It was frosty this morning, and I know the cairngorms had the snow on Saturday, so you might get some white caps.

As to the car park cost at Aira Force, I can't remember, Dseered can you remember how much they are? I know I always think all the lakes parking is expensive, but thats just because I live here.

Hi portrait

We go to the Lakes in October too. It's a great time to go as it's a bit quieter then! As said above, Latrigg is a great place for views above Keswick. Also Walla Crag just outside Keswick has fantastic views and it's not too much of a climb to get up there. You can also walk on to Ashness Bridge which is really nice. In fact if your in a camper, there are two sites, just outside Keswick, right next to each other on the way up to Walla Crag & Ashness Bridge. They're called Castlerigg Hall & Castlerigg Farm and they're both really good sites with views all around the hills and over the lake. The Hall is probably the better of the two but they're both good. Both got very good websites so you can check them out. You can even walk into Keswick from these sites. For early morning lake shots, Derwent Water down at the boat landing in Keswick is also very good with Catbells in the background.

You'll love it! :)

If the skies are clear then Borrowdale is my first choice.

Looking over it brings visions of middle earth...its brilliant
