I'm going to the Lake District in August and would like some ideas as to where to go or places worthwhile visiting so i can make some plans rather than just hoping to stumble on something worth shooting. Also, does anyone know if there are any restrictions on camping in tents around this area? (i'm trying to avoid the £20 per night camping fee offered by "proper" campsites, i don't mind roughing it on the moors).

Where about in the Lake district are you going? I've seen campsites from £3 per night for a small tent. What kind of things do you like shooting, landscapes?

Sarin in the Lakes...? It just sounds wrong...sorry it's getting late...

There are loads of smaller camping sites - usually on farms, that charge a pittance - though facilities will be curtailed...
For once don't rely on the internet, buy a rambler's guide - the red-sock brigade know all about it...

Try going around the Keswick area, maybe staying at Castlerigg?

Around there you have a few decent spots. Ashness Bridge, Castlerigg Sstone Circle etc etc

id recommend camping in a site near ullswater lake (sorry, cant remember the name)
stunning view from the tent and wasnt at all busy when i went.

a few places worth checking out would be derwent water, the waterfall near there (begins with an L) and a couple of the stone circles. castlerigg is good especially as you can park right next to it, and the position of the setting sun would make for good landscapes. swinside cirlce is excellent as well, and a nice walk to get to it too.

I'm planning on doing the same. I was going to go this weekend but the forecast was rain so will wait until next week or a few weeks time (all depending on the weather).

I have my OS explorer maps and will be heading for Wasdale and Buttermere. I got some advice from some guys on here before who said wild camping isn't really allowed, but as long as you pitch up after dark and are gone early and don't leave a trace you should be alright.

Yer, sorry i should of said but i'm mainly into shooting landscapes. I'm not sure where abouts in the Lake District i'm going yet because it'll sort of depent on where places of interest are. Thanks for all comments so far though.

kirkstone pass is a favorite of mine :)
