Hi all.

Off to a hotel in Kendal this weekend to celebrate mother's birthday.

Going with family so time will be limited.

Hoping to get out on Saturday / Sunday morning for some sunrise and also some sunset shots.

Can anyone recommend some good locations within a 30min radius. I have earmarked Windermere for the sunset .... any offers?

Cheers

Anth

Enjoy yourself, I'm also going to Kendal this weekend  Kendal has a castle which might work for the sunset/rise shots, and there is also the south lakes wildlife park not too far away if you fancy something different, but Windermere is your nearest lake (I think)

I'll look out for you Steve!!!

I am back in the lakes the following weekend and hitting the wildlife park then!!!!

Windermere is nearest lake I think ..... I don't fancy the early morning drive to Ullswater over the kirkstone pass!!!!!!

Cheers

Get up to the Dungeon Ghyll past Elterwater (head out from Ambleside) and from there you have a beautiful valley, loads of rivers and waterfalls, Scafell and other noteable bit pointy bits

I was there 2 weeks ago and the Kirkstone Pass was closed - road works.
If you're planning a drive up there, check before yer go :-)

Haha, I live here but am away this weekend - Arnside is a good bet for a sunset !

Actually, which hotel, it could have a bearing, if its the Castle Green see if you can gain access to the Kendal Room, it could be good for sunrise !

Try the stone circle at sunrise - Castle Rigg I think it is called. I know how to drive to it....up the steep hill.....

Castlerigg is a must providing the weather isn't too bad. Latrigg is nearby (Keswick) and as its a tiny 'hill' you gan get up there for some nice panorama's and still have time left for something else. In fact, you can even park your car 2/3rds of the way up it too.

You could then make your way around Derwentwater, taking in Ashness Bridge, Surprise view (5 mins from the bridge) and the 'Entrust' sculpture which is much further round.

I've included some small grabs of the locations:

If you don't fancy heading that far north, I can also recommend Haweswater which again, offers some stunning photo-ops.
