LADY SUE'S 52- Part 2- Together ( a funny one) page 10

Catching up Sue,

Share: Lovely image and fits the theme very well. I like the way the the two nearest the camera appear to be together but are completely oblivious to each other.

Faith: I love the light in this shot. Lovely capture.

Distortion: As a photo this doesn't quite hit the mark for me, but having said that, as an image it's really quite appealing and you've definitely got the Distortion covered.

Faith - As has been said, it's not quite got it right technically, but it doesn't matter... excellent light, and it fits the theme perfectly

Distortion - It fits the theme very well, not sure it's quite for me though...

Distortion - clever yet simple image which fits the theme (though I don't suppose it was simple to do).

I have to say that I personally don't like that particular combination of colours, but apart from that it works really well.

Lead

I havent been able to get out much- still having health problems- but I drove my labrador to a field where she would walk herself and come back to me at the car- she's a clever girl. She looked at me a bit puzzled when I hooked her up to a fence post with her purple lead to take a photo.

Comments and critique welcome

That is quite an eye-watering lead! A lovely dog but she does look a bit puzzled, poor thing. I realise you couldn't help the white sky, but maybe a dark border would help to "contain" it.

Have you seen William Wegman's Weimeraner photos? He had an exhibition at this year's Edinburgh Festival which I really enjoyed.

That is a very obvious lead if ever there was one... she does look rather confused... nicely on theme

Sue, your distortion shot is absolutely beautiful
It's well and truly distorted in shape and colour but still completely recognisable and sharp where it needs to be on the head of the rose.
I really like this a lot and could see it used as packaging on an expensive scented soap or something

And that's a very distinctive lead in this week's.
She doesn't look too impressed at being tied to the fence, but you've captured that expression really well.
As far as pet portraits go I'd have liked the focus to have been on her eyes, but you've gone for the lead and that is the part that fits the theme this week.
Agree with tracer on the border too. I think that would give it a bit of a lift for viewing on here.

Hi Sue, sorry I am catching up again.

Share: I really like your candid shots. There is so much of interest in this shot and it fits the theme very well

Faith: Lovely lighting and composition. Another good one

Distortion: I love it. As Sarah said the focus is just in the right place and it fits the theme beautifully

Lead: The lead really jumps out of the photo in this one, which makes it perfect for the theme. The dog does look a bit confused, though!

I hope you are feeling better. This weather does not help our ailments, does it?

Jenny

She is a very intelligent dog and was looking at me as if I was stupid because I was calling her ( so that she would look at me) so she was giving me the "How am I supposed to come to you when I'm tied to a post" look.:)

Thanks John. She was confused

Thanks. I will give it a border

Thank you Jenny. Candid shots are my favourite to take.

Thanks Jenny.I dont think I can blame the weather for my ailments but it helps a bit if its horrible outside as I dont mind staying in the warm and reading and playing in photoshop.

Hi Sue - Lead is certainly on theme, but I'd have liked to see a plainer background to make it pop out even more. Selective colouring is not to everyone's taste. but I think it would work with this image to make the background less intrusive.

Phil

I love the puzzled look on your pooches face, priceless:).
I agree with Phil, maybe a selective colour on the lead could work well here Sue. A good portrait of your dog, maybe just a wee bit more dof to have the dog in focus too? Iain

Thanks Phil. I didnt have much choice about the background- I cant walk at the moment. I could do selective colouring though and blur the background a bit. Good idea

Thanks Iain. The dog is a bit soft. I took it with my 90mm macro lens on 2.8 to try to highlight the lead and blur the rest of the picture but it didnt do that quite as well as I would have liked.

love the colour of the lead. Poor dog does look a bit sad! Fingers crossed you are able to get and about again soon.

Reading through your thread makes me realise how long I've been absent - and it's great being back!:)

Your street candids go from strength to strength. I also think you've very brave asking strangers to pose for you. Have you ever had anyone say 'no'? Picking out just a couple - I particularly love the York street scene and the man and his faithful friends. I've read the discussion on cropping this shot, but I prefer it as is - the man's expression adds so much to the overall feel of the shot.

Distortion: This is a show-stopper, Sue. As Sarah said, it looks like a beautiful design for an expensive, luxurious toiletry product. Very classy.:clap::clap:

Lead: Well we were on the same track with this one - except I wasn't brave enough to venture out into the cold to get my shot. Ok, I'm a wimp! :D So full marks to you and your lovely dog for braving the cold. Although the Labs I've had have always loved the cold - and a friend of mine always calls bright, bitterly cold days 'Labrador weather' because her dogs love it so much! The shot fits the theme - and that's a nice, long lead - and the colour looks great against the black doggy.

I do hope you're feeling better now and able to get out a bit more.

Thanks. I bought the lead in Australia- it was her present when I came back from my holiday

Thanks Jean. I hope you have been doing something nice while you were away.My lab is quite happy in the cold and will go into icy water if I dont stop her. She eats the snow and races round and round in it.

Space

I like to see farm animals with plenty of space to move around and do the things that are important to them- in this case free range chickens with room to peck and scratch.

Comments and critique welcome, although I know its not that well focused or particularly exciting.

Hi Sue, that's an interesting take on the theme. I would have suggested getting a bit closer to the hens but that would not have achieved the sense of space that you were aiming for.

It's a pity about the building behind which is a bit distracting. Was it not possible to take the photo in a different direction with maybe fields, or at least greenery in the background?

Jenny

Thanks Jenny. No I couldnt get a better shot. I was some distance away on the road.I can barely walk at the moment so took the shot out of the car window. There was a house and farm buildings to the right of the picture. I thought about cropping out the barn but then I would have lost the tops of the trees and the green space next to them.

It's a good interpretation of the theme. I appreciate that you couldn't get a better angle - well done for shooting a picture at all.

I think you could improve it by cropping the top edge to lose the distracting pale sky in the top left. This would concentrate attention on the hens and also reduce the impact of the black building behind.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I agree with Trace, it's a great idea for the theme, but crop a little from the top to lost the sky in the top left...

well done for getting a picture for this week when you are not feeling too good. Fingers crossed you feel a bit better soon.

nice to see chickens enjoying a bit of space.

Your crop gets my vote Sue. Well done on getting an image even though you are not feeling 100%. Question? How have you managed to arrange the chickens in such a neat order? Black/white/black/white :D

Sorry to hear about your restricted mobility. Good idea for space - if you were fully fit, a ground-level shot with the chicken in the foreground and space behind would be a possible composition.

Phil

Thanks Iain. With the end of the project coming and my mobility problems I just wanted to get a picture. I think I can find something for this week's in the house.

Phil

Thank you Phil. Even if I was fit I wouldnt have been able to get a ground level shot as there was another fenced off field between the chickens and the road. I zoomed in on them to get this pic.I'm sure I would have found a better picture elewhere though.

The crop is much better... nice one Sue... sorry to hear about the problems with mobility... hope you're well again soon.

Thank you. It is better I agree. Un fortunately the problems are not going to go away. I just have to adapt as I have a degenerative problem.Part of getting old unfortunately.:)

:plusone: Look after yourself!

Thank you. I have just about sorted Christmas so I will try to get some rest for a few days.

Another catchup Sue.

Lead: That's a lovely looking dog Sue. Does look a little puzzled though :). And the lead does stand out.

Space: Great idea. The crop certainly works better.

Sorry to hear of your restricted mobility. Hope it doesn't deter your enthusiasm.

Thanks Paul. No it takes more than that to stop me taking photographs. I was out in the front garden in the snow this afternoon trying to take pictures, getting soaking wet and cold. They all turned out rubbish though- another day tomorrow.

what strange patterns they make - make my eyes go odd trying to focus the picture !

Have you made them that colour or is that how they looked?

How unusual! An interesting pattern - is the plane of focus within the subject or deliberately outside it?

Phil

Yes they do make your eyes go funny dont they. They were that colour. It is the colour of my car

Phil

Its just a small crop of a bigger photo and the plane of focus is within it.

Lovely abstract, Sue. I love the colours.

Jenny

Thank you Jenny. As I said above it is the colour of my car reflecting in the ice.

Very nice - the slight OOF adds to the abstract feeling, and I really like the colour. Well spotted.

hope you had a good Christmas.

Did she leap into his arms?! I think the black and white works well.

That looks cold! I like the composition and the mono works well. Did you get them to pose for you, and did they fall over afterwards? :D
