Lady Sue's 52 ART AND RELAXATION Page 16

I'm sure the dog gets lots of presents .. wonder what she was thinking ... "is that all I'm getting !"

Yes probably. I got some pictures of her with the whole box of biscuits.

Very dramatic shot for speed, very well put together.

Look forward to seeing the original dog shot.

Thank you. I will post the original tomorrow. Maybe others will be able to suggest better ways of processing it. This is one of the main reasons I love to get critque, so I can improve.

Wonderful idea, lovely dog but it makes my eyes go funny if I look at it for too long ;)
Well done on trying something a tad different in PS though, you're braver than me.
R

what a sweet dog, nice composition.. agree with others on the processing.. not that I could have done it any better!

I like the original photograph of the dog, perhaps with a crop from the left hand side taking away the dark object on the left and some of the doorway in the background. In your PP'd version the dog looks like its floating IMHO.
I can offer no suggestions on PP Sue as I have zero skills in that area:D

I am sure the dog enjoyed its present and it fits the theme so well done:thumbs:

Onward and upward to this weeks theme.
Iain

Thanks for your comments. I dont like all the food dishes in the original but I will have a play with it again later to see if I can improve it.I see what you mean about the dog floating in my second version. I am looking forward to doing "people". I hope it will be better than this weeks offering.

Sue, It's a great idea, and it looks like the doggy is keen for that treat, but the PP hasn't really worked...

What a lovely doggie Sue!
 She’s a real cutie.

I have to agree with the other comments about the PP – it’s just not quite working in either of the edits sorry :(
Absolutely no idea to help you with it either. This is just the type of PP that I’m useless at. Lots of fiddly cutting out - I find it far, far easier to get the DoF right in camera the first time.

But I reckon that if you posted the original and the 2 edits in the Post processing part of the forum you’d get loads of tips from the people in know about how to achieve what you want to.

Thanks. I am still working on the PP.

Thats a good idea. I will post it on that forum. I have done another edit which I will post here in a minute. Thanks for your comments. I dont like to be beaten and I am trying to learn how to do PP better. As for getting dof I find that difficult with the two lenses I have got. The aperture numbers dont seem to go low enough. I am planning on buying myself a nifty fifty 1.8 as soon as I can save the money for it.

Sod the photography... your dog can levitate?! You could enter Britain's Got Talent! :D

She isnt my dog but I see what you mean.

A lovely dog and a lovely pose - great capture.

I would like to see the crop and dark background of the second edit with, in the dog's coat, the vibrant colours of the original entry. Your very last attempt is too dark and lacking in contrast on my monitor.

I'm sure it can be turned into a really good pic, though, with some more PP - how long have you spent already? ;)

Thanks for your comments. You are right- the last one is a bit dark. I have done another edit- have spent about 3 hours on the processing this evening but its how I learn.

Hi Sue,

Not visited this thread yet and commented, so here I am..!

You have some great shots in here, and Speed is the winner for me so far. As to the dog...

Sod the photography... your dog can levitate?!
:) :)

Comment of the week!

I'll head off to post processing and see if you've been helped. If not, it looks as though it's quite simple to fix.

Ian.

I have posted the picture of balloon sellers in Colchester because there are 2 people.

But I really preferred this elderly gentleman playing a saw and singing "Glory Glory Halleluia".

Critique welcomed

The first one looks good, maybe boost the colours a little, nice interaction with one of the subjects.
The second one looks like the subject has a lot of 'character' and works well in mono.
You just need to pay a little more attention on the processing as the blur does not look natural and you missed a couple of bits.
There is certainly a good image in there though.

Those two entertainers look rather scary to me. Very colourful and the selective colouring has helped isolate them more.

The old fella could be a very nice image and could almost be something from the 30's or 40's. But the processing hasn't improved it, as Steve says above. For me I prefer the second shot too, just needs the processing toning down :)

I'm trying to do a better edit of the saw player. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you. I will see what I can do with picture 2

It's a lot better Sue. I'm no expert on these matters so can only say what i see. The trouble remains that the ground in the same plain as the man is out of focus when it should be as sharp as he is. I'd give you a hint but have no idea how to do it :)

What I would like to see, and this is purely a what if idea, is the effect you've used on the background also applied to the man to give it a real aged feel. Might need toning down a little more then but I have an idea what I think it might look like and just want to see ;) Of course it might look pants

Hi Sue,
You seem to have lost some of the contrast in your edit.
The second image is much better in terms of the PP work to blend the background better, but I'd like to see that effect applied to the nice punchy blacks in your original post.

Keep practising!

Ian.

Sawman 2 for me, he looks like a real character. The image really suits B&W and the processing is really very good.

The first has good strong colours and good interaction, but the sawman works best. I have to agree on the processing... the second is much better, but the blur is on everything but him, and that leads to an effect that makes it seem like he's sort of pasted in (best way I can describe it). I think Darren hit it on the head, he is in sharp focus, but the area he is stood in which should also be, isn't, I guess you'd need to not apply the blur to a selection on the pavement...

The selective colouring works well on the balloon sellers. However I like the sawman best. What is he playing it with? I have only ever seen it played with a violin bow but this looks like some kind of beater.

The edit is better but you have missed a bit by his right knee, and lost the overall contrast.

Somewhere I have seen a tut on how to blur the background without getting funny halos, but I can't remember where. Maybe google would help...

You definitely seem to be getting there with that blurred background in PP. Big improvement on last week’s doggy shot.
Just a bit more practice and you’ll have really cracked it! The edit is so close to being there – I think just a little less blur on the pavement by his feet and it would be spot on.

As much as I liked your “street” shot of a few weeks ago, I think there’s some real progression with this style of photography too.

p.s.
I’ve just seen your “poorly” thread in out of focus. I hope you’re well again soon and I’m looking forward to your catch up.

Am still very poorly so please, just for now, be kind. Determined not to miss out on doing my 52 so took this pic of the inside of an old clock in my bedroom.Cant manage PP at the moment. Thanks for get well wishes.
Sue

A pleasing image Sue. Points of interest right across the diagonal. Maybe needed a slightly smaller aperture. Lighting is pretty good and you've got some good colour and contrast.

Well done for getting your shot in and on theme. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Well done for getting a shot out even in illness...

And considering it has no PP, I think it looks pretty good!

Hope you feel better soon!

Ian.

:agree: it looks good Sue, well done for getting it in, and spot on theme, especially when ill. I like it

Thanks for the comments. I did do a little PP, just basic sharpen and contrast. Not lots of messing about like I usually do.Thanks for the well wishes. Its going to be a bit of a long haul it seems so hopefully there will be themes I can do indoors.

Hi Sue, your shot looks really good to me - good colour and detail.
Hope you will soon be feeling better :)

well done for getting a picture while you are ill. Fits the theme nicely. Hope you feel better soon.

Good colours, shadow bit distracting ,but what can I say it fit the theme perfectly. Hope your feeling better soon.

Well done for getting this weeks theme sorted while poorly. It fits the theme very well, the light is a little harsh but other than that .

Get well soon.

Sorry to hear you are still poorly. Hope you are feeling a wee bit better now though.
Your mechanical shot fitd the theme well & is a good effort when you are ill.

Like the shot. Very clean and the colours look nice and true.

Its a nice picture, but alittle to much light on the left hand side for me which i feel hides some detail. Overall a nice picture
