Ladies please. Would you pay £299 for a hair dryer?

Don't think my wife or daughter (long hair) have ever owned a hair drier. Wife can't be bothered with them, and my daughter reckons it's easier to just go out in the sun and let it do the job! :)

totally agree, l do own one for defrosting fridge/freezer :D

I've had long hair for most of my life (until I was 14, it was down to the middle of my calves) and now it varies between waist length and just past shoulders, so i know the importance of a good hair dryer. I try to avoid using it when my hair is still soaking wet, but I have to use it at least a bit when i wash my hair as it just takes SO long to try, the other methods mentioned in the thread about just leaving it would not be practical. That said, my hair dryer i bought in John Lewis in 1999 and pretty sure it was about £40, so even knowing the importance of a good hair dryer, no i'm not sure i would spend £299 on a hair dryer!

I just looked, I counted three GHD hair dryers, and one Babyliss (a travel model). Then I also found a GHD straightener, and two Cloud Nine straighteners. I'd be fooling myself to think that this Dyson won't make an appearance by magic in the next year or so, if that long.

I don't mind that at all, no questions asked about my lenses, computer equipment or cars either. It is much better that way :)

I really do like the styling of the Dyson one. If I had hair that warrants drying on top I'd get one myself.

All reviews seem to suggest it is really as good as the blurb says. Naturally it is too early to say independently whether the hair health benefits will be realised unless anyone has got deep pockets and want to rerun Dysons research.

But come one non-ladies, surely the avoidance of having to listen to just one day of bad-hair-day comments got to be worth buying something like this for your loved ones.

I dunno people tag value to all sorts of things now adays.

I have just paid £200 for a 3m USB cable (well my company has)
Some people pay silly amounts for extras in there car, like £1k for Carbon fibre cup holders.

If I used a hair dryer every day like my wifey does then sure.

Now ...if these were made by Leica nobody would question it at all :)

I'd get a Panasodit one instead...

With a body like this, who needs hair?

While we're on the subject of Dyson I can report that their ball cleaner isnt quite what I was expecting it to be. Backed up by the staff at A&E.

Here you go, Keith - knock one out! http://www.gressergolfcart.com/store/p4/Club_and_Ball_Washer_with_Mounting_Kit.html

The hairier I get, the less body is visible!

My wife has long hair, she's had it cut once in the 6 years we've been together and even than that was just s trim to neaten up the ends.

She blow dries it pretty much every day and it takes forever.......

Our 2 year old daughter has shoulder length hair, we have to wash it every couple of days and it needs drying before she goes to be. We've bought her a Frozen themed hair drier but she's still not too keen on having it done and it can turn into a chase around the bedroom come wrestling match.

If that Dyson hairdryer does what it's meant to do the price tag seems pretty reasonable compared to the scenarios above

l do own one for defrosting fridge/freezer :D
I have heard that before, does it work? the steam cleaner obviously generates a fair bit of water.
If its any good, I my just have to buy one, for the first time ever ( and no not the £299 one either :D )

Yep, works fine and fairly quick.
I normally put a towel in the bottom to catch the water as the ice melts.
Even used it on chest freezer when l had one (y)

Thats what I do too.
Mines due for a defrost, I'll give it a go

Another vote here for hairdryer use in defrosting the freezer...works a charm. :-)

That looks to be mighty painful, when you close it, if you know what I mean;) A shower or bath is much simpler to get clean:).
Could also be (possibly) the best $49.99 ever spent...... for the soloist [emoji54]

I'm that bored I would offer to do if for you if you lived closer (oh b****r being nice again :( )

Blame it on the heat :D

I appreciate the thought :)

Nah I'll just blame you, I do for most things :p

Actually I did mine last week,, if this heat keeps up if might get done again :)

Yep, agree.

After unplugging the freezer ;) put a few bowls of boiling water on the shelves first for 20 mins to start the thawing, then use the hair dryer to get the ice off. Careful not to use too hot, or too near any internal plastics though.

Best use I ever found for a hair dryer,,,,,,,was starting the car. :wacky:

Many years ago I had an old MK1 Fiat (edited) Uno 1 ltr & on particularly cold Winter mornings it often wouldn't start. A quick spray of WD40 usually worked, but often it would cut out if condensation froze in the carb. so extension lead & hairdryer for 2 minutes worked a treat. (y)

find the thread title incredibly sexist :p

I wash and dry my hair every day.

Would I spend £299 on a hairdryer? No

But I spend thousands on lenses - hundreds on kitchen knives, it takes all sorts.o_O

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, your lenses have superior optics, you knives superior blades.
This is a hairdryer. It dries hair, as does a £40 hair dryer.
Used correctly, the lower priced dryer will not damage your hair.
Used incorrectly, the Dyson will do just as much damage as a lesser priced item.
Brand fans will buy it. Gadget fans will buy it, and good luck to them; but a fair few gullible folk will buy it based on misleading blurb.

You folks down south never heard of frost free fridge freezers? Hahaha

Yep, but I'm not about to replace a perfectly good fridge freezer for a new one just because frost free one's are available, now am I?
Needing to defrost the freezer doesn't mean it's broken.
When it does eventually break, I'll think about it. :-) (Though I've heard enough reports of, and seen for myself, the inefficiency of some FF freezers for that to be a long though!)

Fair point, well presented

Jeeze that brings back memories to my truck driving days, no, not a hair drier in sight, although my hair was a lot longer and there was more of it :D

A Leyland Clydesdale, it was bitch to start, burning oily rag under the sump worked a treat
(I wonder what H&SE would have to say about that these days :D )

I'm greedy, I need 3 freezers and a fridge. an upright freezer for human food, and an upright fridge for the same reason.
one average sized chest freezer in the garage to store animal food ( hawk and snake) and one small upright freezer in the kitchen, in daily use for smaller amounts of animal food,
top up as required from the storage freezer ..

Aye, `waxy` diesel. :( I remember seeing burning rags under wagons regularly as a kid, usually in the old metal oil can pourers. Can you imagine the safety elf's if they saw that these days.

Aye, `waxy` diesel. :(
They took the fun out of that when they started adding "winter additives" :(
(when a gallon of petrol, in the diesel tank used to work just as well)

:D

Never used the hot water, except to wash if once defrosted, straight in with the hair dryer, never taken more the 15 mins other wise the food defrost
while it sitting out

If you don't mind the odd noise like a cow mooing in your kitchen then they're the dogs b****. I certainly don't miss being on my knees with the hairdryer in one hand and a bloody soaking wet freezing towel in the other. When we moved recently our new kitchen somehow got designed with an american fridge freezer in mind so unfortunately we had to go and buy one !!!!;)

I'm glad you're happy, others not so much (as with all things). :D
But my point was, why would I buy one prior to my current one going titsup breaking?

You're right enough as i wouldn't have replaced mine just because i had to defrost it but i also would never have bought it had i known about frost free fridge fridge freezers before i did. By the way mine is still working like the day i bought it in my parents kitchen.

Your milk stays nice and fresh in there too and it doesn't s*** all over or eat.

Ours doesn't defrost, we put it in the fridge, or defrost in the Winter & put it outside. Frozen food doesn't tend to defrost between supermarket & home. ;)

Yes I would if I had the sort of wife that such a gesture would guarantee a certain amount of goodwill coming my way (unhindered camera and lens buying)

In my case all it would do is ensure my sanity was again brought into question and be asked to return it straight away for a refund
