Crash Taylor.

Crash is one of the best contemporary wedding and portrait photographers working here in the UK. Award winning does not even begin to describe the standard he sets. Originally from the US he, and his family, live near Nottingham. I have always found Crash to be incredibly generous with his time, his thoughts and feelings.

If you have not yet encountered his work, please take time to have a look here. http://www.crashtaylor.com/

I've always held the opinion that compositionally, he is one of the best in the business and it is real pleasure to welcome him to TP.

A glowing welcome Ali.

Having read it, I clicked the link with anticipation

Having clicked it, I closed it with disappointment

It's all subjective I guess.

I think if you take the time to go through the blog, a lot of ths shots are compositionally superb. Dress shots and detail shots are among the best I've seen. The shots on the beach, the shots outside the barn with the car. All top notch.

I have followed Crash's blogs for over a year now and I think his compositional use of positive and negative space when under the pressure in a wedding are nothing short of superb.

Welcome to TP.

Ali, as I have stated before, wedding photography is a very subjective issue, what some like ,others will loathe. End of it all,if the client is happy, then job done......

Crash, you have some good stuff in there, some of it very different too, some I like and I reckon some could grow on me......:D

Welcome to TP.
Well i was impressed. Loved the wedding slideshow and agree with Ali, there's some amazing compositions in there.
You lose a few marks for the music on the website though, it didn't mix too well with the Pink Floyd blurting through my headphones but i found the mute button eventually :thumbs:

Hi Crash

Welcome to TP

I think you have a great style, something to aspire to after I looked at your blog images , 1 thing I personally dont like is the distant BG images, and for this shot why did you not go behind the BG and get the whole gatherings faces and why such a big sky theres hardly any detail in the gathering or BG could be anyones wedding think thats why I dont like the distant shot to anonymous BTW I do like it though

Because that is art :), if it was me I would have close ups aswell but id probably put this on my site just because it looks so cool.

Just looked through more intensely, got bored very quickly.

There is nothing to hold me on this site, sorry.

Thanks everyone. Fracster you're right, as long as my clients are happy then I'm happy.

There are different styles for different folks.

Anyway, look forward to being part of this what seems to be a cool forum.

The coolest :D You will struggle to find a friendlier bunch. Just don't venture into any wedding threads ;) :cuckoo:

Other than those, the place is pretty special.

Gary.

Some very nice work there imho  - welcome to the forum Crash.

Welcome to the forums Crash (Cool parents calling you that! ;))
I must admit I do love some of those wedding photos.

Some don't hit me, but that's just subjectiveness at work and my own individual tastes...

But some of them really hit the spot for me, especially the one of Rebecca in the field of freshly planted, er, trees?
That's my cup of tea...Slightly out of the ordinary.

ahhh such a slow website! sorry i didnt even get to the photos as either TP is overloading your site, or the overload of flash, and music are making it very slow. ill look another time

Welcome crash .:) If ali like's ya you must be alright;)

I had a quick look at ya site will have a proper look tommorrow.

md:wave:

Thanks JustDave, EdinburghGary and LukeWoodford for the kind words. And yes I got plenty of forward views and close ups as well. You can't put them all on the blog ;-)

Exactly, thought you would have, it's all about the stand out shots, I completely understand.

Can i ask a really cheeky question? Has anyone ever paid £15k for the Hawaii or LA package? You don't have to answer of course but i imagine your clients aren't short of a bob or two :D

Some truly inspirational work, really love the B&G, plus sheep :)

Will be following your blog, from now on:D xx

Welcome aboard Crash. Like the shots on your site a lot. I'm with Marcel, different is good.

Andy

Actually I like them a lot  but that said my ex wife would have thought them ghastly, my current wife loves them.
I guess it's as has been said before 'subjective'
Sorry, welcome I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your work.

Think of it in terms of style too guys and gals.

If you look at Yervant, he was one of the first to bring fashion style imagry to wedding photography. You can spot a "Yervant inspired" shot a mile off. Same goes for people like David Beckstead. Crash's photography IS different and I always think it is good to expose yourself to different styles and different techniques.

The development of a style is so important commercially. If you look at Spxxx and WeddingHack's work, they have a very definate style. You also need to be very aware of what the market wants. It was Crash who brought to my attention the survey in this month's Professional Photographer regarding the preferences of the buying public. Something like 51% prefer colour, 7% prefer B&W and the rest leave it to the photographer. So if you choose to shoot exclusively in B&W, you will only have 7% of the market to pitch to. But if that 7% are spending 40% of the money, then does it matter? Jeff Ascough manages quite nicely :)

So yes, different IS good :)

If I got an introduction post like that on a forum I'd turn around and walk away there and then.

I did like some of the pics but for me, I like a down to earth approach to websites and being totally frank, found that one a tad pretentious. Having said that, anything that loads up and starts playing me Allison Kraus will be forgiven just about anything.

Ohhh weird, she just turned up in the radio too.

It's all subjective I guess.

Totally with you on this one simmo photography especially wedding photography is subjective and these leave me completely cold

Glad you liked that song dazzajl.

Thanks AliB and the others. It's all subjective and photographers especially are super subjective and green. Clients search me out for my style and they keep me very busy. As long as their happy I'm happy.

I create images for my clients and for ME not for other photographers.

Anyway, thanks folks for the kind words and the others for their opinions.

All you have to do is look at the responses on this thread to see how people view different imagery.

I checked out the work of respondents to this thread, some thumbs up, some thumbs down. Subjective!

Strange thread this. Most people get to write their own hello without a fanfare of introduction from a third party.

On that basis, I think it is quite rude of members to pass comment on links to images posted by a third party who hasn't asked for critique.

Style and evolution are what drive photography forward. I have no understanding or interest in wedding photography - what with not being married and never having photographed one, but I do applaud people trying to be different. It is what moves the art forwards.

As long as their happy I'm happy.

Often gets forgotten. Hell, half the stuff I shoot isn't to my taste but it's not for me.
