La Machine - Now with Pics on page 2 and an updated schedule

I saw you (pete) down by me :) what happened when it went into the tunnel? I lost sight of it as it went backwards then and saw you lot dash over.

We waited just a bit too long to dash over. Nothing really happened. They kept making smoke to hide the entrance. Met Marcel, Jimmy, and sakura down there. Some guys off Flickr too.

Ugh, something i need to get is a steady hand. A lot of the shots i was taking at 1/60 or less is as blurry as ****. Normally i'll get them reasonably sharp.

Thank goodness i had a fast, f2.8 constant lens with me, otherwise the results owuld have been even worse.

And my memory card is playing up...

keeps stalling every 4 images, making me restart the transfer.

It was quite bright there though. 1/60 seems a bit slow.

As it was walking down the main drag, not at the very end. The last bit was nicely lit with floodlights, but when it was walking past the museum, it was not.

What ISO were you on? I had to push mine quite a bit.

I was on 1600 all the time. 24-70, 10-20 and 50mm f/1.8 in use.

Days like this I wish I had a D3, 30mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.2.

Looks like it's ISO1600 for the win, I was on that as well, my 10-22 was a bit wide for me (stupid sign post to the left) so I was mainly on the wide end of my 18-125.

It was good tonight (well, better than good, really). I'm really pleased to see all the positive posts above and so glad that people appreciated La Machine. Its one of the most incredible things I've ever seen, both as a feat of engineering and as a work of art.

Yesterday was hard work. There were a lot of people and there was a lot of pushing and tempers were fraying. For some reason, tonight was a better atmosphere. Maybe because there was a bit more space.

Not everything went to plan / schedule. And we did have to wait at times when the thing should have been on the its way. But all in all it was worth it. An absolutely stunning display in every sense.

Congrats on getting an 'Explore' on FlickR, I've just finished the first edit of my photos, and they are now up on my FlickR account, and it's now quarter to two and most definitely time for bed.

Thanks, Hawker

But you can't tell the time - 2:47 when you posted that :naughty:

It was awesome tonight. Loved every minute of it.

shows at 1:47 for me :p think your time in your control panel thingy may be out :p

Not had a look at my shots from last night yet, but damn wasn't it busy! I stuck with 17-40 at 1600ISO in Tv mode set to 1/40th most of the time, with the 430ex to illuminate the crowd infront of me. Shots are probably awfull :(

Shame there wasn't more than just a giant spider considering It cost 1.5 million but It was still good. Didn't like the weather so I didn't take no photos.

I watched it for a bit. I got irritating though by the hoards of scallie kids who weren't interested, but were just there because they had f-all else to do.

La Princess looked good though - I thought it was all very well presented. No photos from me though, as I left my camera at home.

I managed to get into all the wrong positions and usually found a tree in-between me and the spider! :bang:

Huh? A 37 tonne beast, 20 meters high with 8 legs driven by about 20 people prowling the streets. What more do you want?

Weather was crap on Friday, but fine for the rest of the weekend.

Anyway, what are plastic bags for once they've carried your shopping home?

Not to mention all the effects. There's always someone who goes "Well its ok, but for £1.8m I wanted more." I've never seen anything like that outside of a film. Sort of hope I never do see anything like it again so it retains its uniqueness. The week a giant spider visited Liverpool and went for a walk. How cool was that?! It really is something you'll remember and tell people about. The way it was intrigued by buildings and trees. Brilliant.

Here's a pic from a totally different angle on Sunday night. Not a great pic I know because of all the clutter in between, but it shows something different.

I had to walk around looking for a place to set up my tripod as I didn't want to up the ISO too much, and this was the best I could get.

Anyway this shows the water that was dumped on La Princesse, and I'm assuming most of the crowd in the vicinity.

It also shows the height of the spider when its legs were stretched out.

The outline of the statue on the is of King George V watching the La Princesse. ;)

I forgot to add that there is a TV prog, 'La Machine in Liverpool' on BBC North West on Wednesday at 7.30pm. For those that are not in the North West, but wish to see the programme, it will be available on the BBC iPlayer apparently. :)

Got round to processing a few before, and some have come out alright. Not bad for holding the camera high, and hoping I've aimed right, and with the right settings (Was using manual all evening, as the light was that mixed).

The only three that i've uploaded to flickr are as follows;

Hope you like em! was really hard to get a decent shot from the position i found myself in.
