L brackets

I've tried Kirk and rrs but now mainly use sunwayfoto on the last few Nikon cameras. Cheaper option and as far as I can see just as good as more expensive ones.

My favourite L bracket by far is by ProMedia Gear, but they seem hard to locate at the moment. Others may vary but I didn't have a good experience with a 'Chinese' one, didn't fit too well and had to be removed to access the battery holder, although the quality of the casting seemed OK, I just keep coming back to the would you trust your expensive camera body and lens to it?

Personally Having used Kirk before and still on one of my bodies that is what I would plump for...

Cheaper versions are indeed very tempting but just hope
nothing will happen that could make you wish for you did
not reach for them.

There are a few IMPORTANT differences in the materials
and their properties that should not be ignored…

• Resonance
• Elasticity
• Torsion
• Brittleness
• Surface hardness
• Integrity

Attached to a costly cameras operating in critical conditions,
a bracket should not create problems but have the qualities
that should keep them away.

Yes, they do, a very very basic function…
but he way this function is performed is everything.

It is clear that not everyone will need or appreciate all
the six qualities I listed — the cheaper one will do just
fine for the very very basic function.

I will, however, not do the same mistake again.

All my experience is base on the Nikon single digits and the
gripped 800 series.

The worst aspects I had to face are resonance and elasticity
at once — specially at capture in focus stacking works.

Dye cast aluminium, the main manufacturing process used
for the cheaper version, containing none, traces, or little mag-
nesium are the nightmare here. They may be good at only one
thing eventually: protecting a side of the camera against shocks.

I observed that only the CNC'ed with much higher Mg content
brackets are apt to accomplish the tasks.
