Just read this:

Sort of ironic is'nt it? Kodak claims it only accounts for 1% of its total sales, yet 5000 rolls + of it have sold since the 22nd of June.

Personally I love Kodachrome, I have only used it a few times for slides, but the colours are so vibrant and detailed. Pity they have discontinued it after 74 years.

Because of this I have created a petition to Kodak to keep them manufacturing and selling Kodachrome 64. If you want to sign it click the link below

Please sign it all current and former Kodachrome users and help keep Kodachrome alive!

Lets hope that not all fil goes that way. Im a fuji user. I would hate to think that they are going to stop producing Velvia again, though it does seem to have a loyal troop of shooters, Im sure as kodachrome did

Is it not the special process thats killed it?

C41 and E6 films are still be developed (well, new designs etc I mean)

The K-14 process is very complex, but it produces excellent results. The main problem is that only Dwaynes Photography processes it now due to Kodak shutting down most of their labs. Where I am in the UK, I have to send it to Switzerland and it is then redirected to Dwaynes. I don't think that the process has anything wrong with it personally as it produces superior results to the E-6. The complexity is the reason why the E-6 was designed, for the K-14 you need specially trained chemists and special equipment with very tight tolerences for development times.
I don't think that Kodachrome is a dead product, sure its only 1% of total Kodak sales, but look at the demand.

there's only big demand because it's being discontinued, if they decided to keep producing it from today onwards I bet the sales would be almost zero because everyone who uses it has a fridge full

Even 1% is quite a lot compared to the amount of products Kodak sell and also theres only one sort of valued Kodachrome left after they discontinued 200 in 2006, so sales figures will be lower than their other slide films as there are 4 more of them.

I have not shot with Kodachrome in the last 6 months but I was going to take some on holiday with me, but now everywhere is sold out. I only found out they had discontinued it about 4 days ago.

I saw a roll of it when I was in Jessops the other day, I was tempted but it was a bit too much for me and I wasn't sure about having to send it to be developed... I wouldn't mind a roll just for the sake of having it though :D

I bet there are lots of people like me who bought a roll when they heard it was going to be discontinued, just to shoot it one last time. If they hadn't said it was ending, sales would have continued to stagger along at the usual rate.

So would I, Its out of stock everywhere - I bet its selling on ebay for twice the usual price.

Seriously, sign the petition I made as it will give Kodak the idea that people are not willing to let it go easily. I am also going to send them an email every two days.
