howdy

i have seen a couple of articles recently on Kodak Aerochrome III... some pretty cool images

i am hoping that there is a way (plugin / filter etc) of emulating the effect digitally (photoshop / lightroom)

anyone have an experince... tips / tricks

the closest I have seen is alien skin exposure 7 if that helps ;-)
 
i had a quick look thru.... didn't seem to see the kodak aerochrome III listed... unless i am missing something?.. looks like a nice set of filters though

It was written for my BA students, so ignore anything course specific, such as the weekly tasks.

As @Steve Smith said though... have you tried buying a roll of the actual stuff?

as i don't have a film camera anymore... wanted to play around with a couple of images i took recently to try out the aerochrome look on them

might be time to invest in a film camera.. and some film :banana:

Ask around, film camera have little value these days, many people simply give them away. I've seen a camera that was top of it's range back in film days being sold for £30 odd pounds a little while back.

can the aerochrome be processed at a "normal" film processing place... or does it need to be done by a specialist?

have a look on here -

seems that it'll process in either C41 or E6 chemistry, giving differing effects. Personally I'd be tempted to run a couple of rolls, send it away to somewhere like Peak Imaging, and get one done in "straight" E6 (slide chemistry) and the other as "cross processed" in C41 (colour negative) and see which you prefer.

the Native processing chemistry is AR-5, but its getting pretty rare to find these days.

just read thru the article... and looked at the images... i must say... i prefer the look of the c41 processing... but.. some of the e6 images also look pretty cool

choices choices... but as you say.... give both a shot and see which ones looks best "in the flesh"

I couldn't split the two looks myself, hence recommending trying both... I think, as with most things in photography, it could be using whichever way was most appropriate for a given style or genre of shooting... Always good to have options :)

If I remember rightly (and it's been some time) you needed a yellow or orange filter to get the best effect.
 
Interesting stuff, having failed to get hold of any EIR for a reasonable price this may be the answer!
 
thanks for the filter reminder... i did read that they were required

the more info i get from this fab forum... and the more i research it on the web.... the more exciting / tangible it becomes.... though... finding the film... and at a decent price... might be the big ask
