Kodachrome on fleabay

pardon my dumbpidity.... but I thought Kodak was closing-down operations do do with kodachrome.... are they bringing it back?

if so :D:) yipiee!

I've got Kodachrome slides shot in the 1950's, not by me, and they still look excellent.
Much better than my 1970s Agfa CT18 transparencies!

I'm not sure if it's still in production or if they only do a run every few years or so.

The only place in the world that can dev it still is Dwayne's lab in Kansas. I'm not sure if the processing paid includes shipping it there and back or not.

That said, a few people in the world have home deved it. It's rather difficult and not something you'd do if you didn't understand it thoroughly though.

well ima gonna order some anyway when I get the cash! -you never know it might be the last batch they make!

I heard that a few other places do developing... but I dunno if its true, kodak still do don't they, as its "process paid?"

also is the ISO 64? my camera only goes down to 100 on the meter :( AND! its "process paid for" so i don't have to pay dwane a penny?

sorry for silly questions:)

Basically they come with a little red and yellow process paid envelope with the address for the old lab in Switzerland on them. You fill in your details on the back and take it to the post office. They charge you about 70p to send it to Switzerland, you wait about 2 weeks and a nifty yellow Kodak box appears one day in the post with your slides in.

Dwaynes is the only lab in the world processing K14 as the machjine needs to run 24/7 to achieve consistent results cheaply enough to make it viable. You *can* developing it in standard B&W chemicals to get a B&W image but when its process paid you might as well send it to Dwaynes.

Every so often a hair brained scheme by someone who doesn't really understand the nature of whats involved pops up to start developing K14 again, and it always dies. There is enough demand to support Dwayne's but I doubt 2 labs could be run affordably.

If you really want to there is a second hand K14 processing line listed for sale somewhere on the internet for about $35k. Kodak don't supply the chemicals in bags anymore so you would have to be able to consistently mix the chems, and then you would need lots of waste film to get the lab set up right.

It is however an awesome film with a look of its own and if you like it you should definately shoot some.

also is the ISO 64?

yep ISO 64. You could meter at ISO 100 and set it to auto underexpose?

Ah cheers! Bit silly sending it off to switzerland just to send it to dwane's but Im not one to complain!

Also, i am rather happy as it turns out that my bessa goes down to 25iso! (dunno how I missed it before!)

I don't think its worth me shelling out 35k for the whole system until I know I like the film first  -perhaps if every member of TP put in a quid or two we could make it a group buy:lol::lol::lol:

now, just to save up enough to get a decent number of films (no point in just ordering one or two at a time...)
