I fancy trying out a new tele lens I've just bought & was considering Knowsley Safari Park..

From a photography point of view is it worth a visit ot will most shots be through a closed car window ??

I'm also close to Chester Zoo & the Welsh Mountain Zoo so these may be better options perhaps

Would appreciate anyones experiences of these places

thanks

You might find Knowsley quite difficult. As you say, you will be shooting through car windows (serious wild animals prowling about), which is not ideal. Also if you choose to drive through the monkey section you run the risk of damage to the vehicle - when I was there this included wiper blades being ripped off, wing mirrors broken, etc. (not all on the car I was travelling in, and it wasn't my car anyway, so I thought it funny.)

I would say Knowsley is not a place for photography. Chester zoo is a much better idea. You will have a chance to take some thought-out shots and the biggest danger you will face is school parties.

i wouldnt, if i'm honest, the monkeys wreack your car, you have shut windows with larma/camel spit all over them, and it really is just a drive IMO

I would much rather go to chester Zoo to shoot animals.

The only good pics I've got from Chester are from a Wild Arena day where you get special access but you do have to pay for the priviledge. I've only been to Chester once (on a TP meet) and it was superb. I plan to return

Knowsley isn't so far a drive for me... it would be good to take our boys there as they've not been. My only reservation would be our car... it's a nice, relatively unscathed XC90 and I don't relish the propsect of monkeys pulling the windscreen wipers to shreds, etc. ANyone knw how much of a problem this is?

Last type I was there. someone talk a Bentley Continental GT into the baboons!

I've seen them remove wipers from a lot of cars.

Knowsley was great for pics... they have 2 routes when you get to the monkey area.. around or through.. i opted for round and still saw the monkeys OK...

I photographed loads there and the only time window "supposed" to be kept shut is through the big cats area as thet could walk right up to car... everywhere else widow open.. My kids got camera phone pics of a drooling camels head inside the car :)

I have NEVER done wildlife before.. this was my first attempt
