Yes
On Tues night I got woken up by a loud knocking on our door, not sure if it was front or back. Its usually about 5 quite hard knocks in very quick succession.

Its happened before but because it wakes me up I've up to now been unsure whether I've just dreamt it. I have quite vivid dreams at times.

Anyway was sat chatting with ma & pa and just happened to say I'd got woken up by someone flippping knocking on the door again last night.

My mum's face looked ashen and she just looked at my dad then turned back to me and said "you've hear it too, I thought I had dreamt it".

My dad hasn't heard it, very strange as he doesn't sleep that well.

It has been happening a few times since before Christmas.

Should I be worried, is it just our ****** neighbours trying to wind us up, is it someone casing us out, or are we unlucky enough to be haunted.

I'm going to start making a note of when it wakes me up and take more notice of the time to see if there is any pattern.

Anyone heard of this happening before?

sounds to me like someone having a bit of "Fun". most likely kids. could you rig up a small wireless cctv type camera pointing at the door and then you'd know for sure.

Also, should it be kids and they see the camera, it's likely to stop all together :)

I'd be surprise if it was kids. We are talking early hours of the morning here between 1.00 & 3.00am ish.

I live in a small village not a town and kids are not normally up and around at that time.

Did think about a camera.

Will have to price it up.

Not sure if its the front or back door.

Possibly a silly question, but did anyone open the door and see if anyone was there?

Hi Tom

After being woken up i listened to see if anyone knocked again. After the initial 5 or so knocks then there is nothing.

I am not going to open my door to anyone at that time in the morning. We are going to try and get to the windows to look out to see if we can see anyone. Trouble is after being woken up from a deep sleep I'm a bit groggy, will also have to find my glasses as can see sod all without them.

You would think if someone specifically wanted us to open the door they would keep knocking.

hehe good point...just had a flashback of The Royle Family where they all look at each other when someone knocks on the door and no one goes to answer it :p

sorry....back on topic now :p

Either ghosts or scallys, as said above get a camera to point at the door/s.

It's the bogeyman, just don't say Candyman 3 times in a row.:nuts:

Why not let the Police know?

 Isn't that infront of a mirror - or has there been a remake of the one I saw ages ago.... :$

If it was kids, they wouldnt keep doing it if there was no response.. Its the response they want, so they would have moved on elsewhere.

So that must mean its a poltergiest.. Better ring the ghostbusters.

That time of night...surely more likely to be a local drunk on the way home more than kids?

I had a similar thing at my old gaff; heard voices in the street that sounded teenager-like and two nights running i had gravel from my front yard thrown at the front door window. This was about 1am. Looked outside and aw no-one (they'd obviously ran off). Next night I just heard a massive crash (same time) and my front door window had been smashed in by a massive handful of pea gravel. Hear running in the distance when I got the door unlocked but didn't see anyone. Insurance sorted a new window there and then - repairer turned up about 2am. Talking to the police, they admitted that it was probably kids and it was hard to see anyone being held to account. Nothing I wasn't expecting to hear.

It amazes me how many teenagers are out at all hours of the night but they are out there and there seem to be more and more as time goes on. I'd say you have a case of bored kids just messing around.

Just a thought. Is the house detached - with some separation from the neighbours - or semi-detached, terraced? Sounds can echo and seem to be magnified at night, and appear to be very close. Have you spoken to the neighbours and asked if they can shed any light on it?

You're probably dreaming it, and your mind is then listening for the sound, so when it comes (in your dream) you wake up....

It's me, next time will you let me in...it's bloody freezing out there!

i'd make sure you get up and turn at least one light on, just in case it is someone casing your house. You want to make sure they know you're in.

Weird. I was just thinking about how I suffered a similar thing for several years 'til recently, at several addresses. Ususally, it would happen when I was having a nap, or just settling down at night when particularily tired - it was more the sound of a heavy door closing rather than a knock though.
The reason I was thinking about it, is because the old bird on the ground floor of my current gaff persistently lets her kitchen door slam and it has the same sound

Are you sure that it's actually the door?
Is it happening at times when you've had the heating on during the day and it's gone particularly cold at night?

We get all kinds of odd creaks and knocks in those conditions where the house is cooling down quickly.

Strange that her Mum has the same dream.:thinking:

Google hypnagogic sensations - I've experienced the paralysis too - it's very common
