Hello, does anyone have experience of using their kit by the sea?

Has anyone shot water sports at length?

I was wondering about the dreadded sea water/corrosion threats.

I have a 7d, and will be using a shower bag and filters.

Wondered if anyone had any tips to spare :)

you should see my manfrotto tripod then. The paint has all come off, white metal oxide everywhere (MgO I suspect - they may have coated tripod with Mg alloy :cuckoo: ). That's pretty bad if that was a camera. The tripod has been sanded down and been fine since :)

I shoot with my kit on the sea a lot, nothing noticeable yet. Been about 3 years of regular use on the water. Sea spray on the lens is always a worry, sometimes use a filter when's its super rough and waves crash over the boat. I use a think tank hydrophobia and that does a good job.

Oh and a spare tea towel to dry your hands when they get wet.. Usually keep it in a dry bag

As above, the only thing to suffer sea water corrosion so far is my tripod.
The camera us yet to succumb to sea water attack.
A little bit of common sense should prevent your camera getting destroyed.
Last night I had the 5D2 literally a foot and a half off the rocks that the swell was crashing around.
The spray from said swell was jumping up in front of the camera with the odd bit of spray hitting it.
A clean cloth wipe down between exposures did the job.
