Kingfishers

I wish you luck, it would be great to capture a few shots of those beauties.

Try Mere Sands Wood near to Martin Mere. One of the hides at the far end is a good place to see them.

Just had a look at the site map it's the Rufford Hide that you want.

Hi,i f you really want to see and get close to kingfishers youre best bet is to go as local as possible, its just a case of finding your nearest river and looking ,you will need to spend time searching looking for signs but if you put the time in you will find them.

Remember there are restrictions on photographing Kingfishers.
They are protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act. You may need a license from Natural England, see their website.

You might be committing a criminal offence merely by your presence, let alone trying to photograph them.

They have been hit by a few hard winters and numbers are quite low.

Just a heads up, as ignorance of the Law is not innocence :) though I doubt they are nesting right now, if that makes a difference.

There are restrictions on disturbing Kingfishers at, or near, the nest. Photographing Kingfishers outside the breeding season, or, when at the nest, in a manner that will not disturb them, is no problem at all.

That's why I said 'might'!

Always best to check with natural England first.

Have you not tried Crommy Lodges, or to those not local moses gate country park.

can I just say I usually find a place for them to come to me!!...I have only ever seen them outside of a hide!!!!

and crommy lodges, never seen anything unusual there, is it not too busy??

I believe there are some down near Bradshaw Tennis club, and more near Martin mere in southport.

Try further down the river out to Nobend (snigger) I hear there are some down that way. stick a perch in to the bank and watch or look for other peoples perches
