Seems that there is a influx of Kingfisher pictures (what happened to Kites - but never mind) ..

What I'd like to know is where are they to be found (apart from rivers etc) but where abouts in Essex or even Kent would I be able to spot/catch one (picture wise that is)

Cheers for that Chris.... If the weathers OK might pop down there - kill two birds with stone then as can pop in & see my parents...

if you go there trig walk right along the river away from the bridge and lock. when you find a small marina with a bench on the river bank thats were we saw the bird about 15ft away from us sitting on a post.

 Cheers - even more so to the spot of where they are

I'd love somewhere to see these little blighters in Essex. The ONLY place I have seen them whilst I've been fishing there TWICE (No Camera!!!) :gag:

Was at the Fennes Fishery - Braintree. Main lake, around the island fishing away like no-one was there.

Keep threatening to go back but they needed to be closer really. Couldn't have got a decent shot I don't think though lovely to see and watch this rare sight.

+1 in Essex
How do fisheries generally feel about letting toggers in for stuff like that? I would have thought it would be frowned upon.

Probably not advisable, as it tends to offend the other birdwatchers...:coat:

I actually removed that from my OP - but seemed I forgot to reword it 2nd time around when replying :$

I've had some good views at RSPB Fowlmere. Can't remember which hide (and the stupid RSPB don't have online maps) but it was a small pool and the kingfisher perched within 2m of the hide! Of course I didn't have the camera with me that day.

In summer 2009 I saw kingfishers a few times over at Belhus Woods Country Park, at three different locations. I managed a few snaps at one pond without the aid of a hide, and with a dog "helping" me. In 2010 I have had no KF sightings there.

I've also seen them whizzing by at Rainham Marshes, but no chance of a shot, and again no sightings this year.

Last year I heard reports of KFs at Chafford Gorge, but no personal sightings.

In May this year I did visit Rye Meads a couple of times on the look for fledging KFs but only saw the adults and at distances so great and light so poor that trying to photograph them was, in my opinion, a waste of time. No keepers for me.

:thinking:Mmmmm would that be in Bristol  - Not that far from Essex & Kent then

Trigs
The River Chelmer at Ulting is a good place to start. You can park by the bridge and walk either side along the tow path.

 Cheers Kimo - much appreciated

If you are up at the top of Essex then you could try 'Jimmy's Farm' - from BBC TV fame. It is just off of the A14 heading from Ipswich towards Felixstowe. They have a little lake there that KFs visit.

I thought you wanted to photograph them not throw stones at them, you will scare them away :lol::lol:
