My mate has given me his Kindle, having de-registered it. However, it still has books on it that I'd like to read.

My query is whether or not it will delete his content if I register it with my account details. At present I use kindle on my iPad & iPhone and have a number of books on these which I'd like to put onto the Kindle.

Most of the books he had on it are free to download - but there are a few that he has paid for.

Any help most gratefully received.

If you register it with your account then the books not be acessible to you although the files will physically remain. Its down to the drm of the books, even the free ones. Seems a bit daft especially as they are free.

You can get the files off by using it on usb to a pc.
 
Thanks for those replies; it's pretty much as I suspected.

I'll read the couple I want that have been paid for and then re-register it to my account.
