Hi all

Looking for some tips for shooting at Kimmeridge, is it worth going to at high tide??

Will be shooting with sony a100k

Any input/advice appreciated

P.S Planning on going this evening as it's been one of those weeks and i need to get away:(

Best at low tide ish when all the wave cut ledges are visible. Might be worth having a look elsewhere along the coast? I know durdle door and it's related bits are over done, but at least it's visible at high tide. I guess it depends on how high the tide will be at sunset.

Might be worth a looksee anyways....

Cheers Gandhi, i did run a search on here and i think your name came up :)

I think high tide at swanage = 2158 High 2.2mt

IF i do go i may try my hand at long exposure ie milky/silky looking water, any tips will be taken on board :)

Tripod, lowest possible iso, anything below f16, experiment with shutter speeds to create desired effect. If you don't have an ND filter you may need to wait until there si very little light to get slow enough speeds. Above all ENJOY!

I'm off bug hunting now

Look forward to seeing them when you get back.
Not been there for a few years.

And with you using the same cam as I've just got I have a vested interest in the results. ;)

Ermmm i think i now know it's better to go at low tide! Was a nightmare 2 hours to get to, about 60 miles for me. I didnt find it inspiring tbh was a fair few people about paddling, fishing, walking etc.

Tide was fairly high at 8ish and the shot i wanted of the bay from my position had a group of people openly getting changed to swim!
I did however actually capture somebody walking on water ;)

I ended up heading back with the intention of passing by Sandbanks and having a go at a few houses with external downlights but en route saw a big red blob in the sky near a supermarket, so pulled over and sneaked round the side of a new apartment block.

Will put a few shots up tomorrow/when i can get into photobucket :(

Does anyone else feel awkward/uncomfortable in these situations? ie on a beach still lots of people enjoying the beach and me with camera and large tripod!

I've been to Kimmeridge twice and I love the place. Admittedly, I went in November and March so it wasn't very busy - just a few fossil hunters around. There were quite a few photographers around last time I was there (and the time before that was a TPF meet!) so I suppose that made me feel a little more comfortable. I also checked the tide tables and made sure I went at low tide so that I could get out on the ledges.

I'd definitely go there again, as you can get some stunning shots (have you seen any of the shots of Kimmeridge by Milou?

Swanage, which isn't far from Kimmeridge, is a lovely place to photograph too.

Oh and one of my absolute favourite places nearby to photograph is the deserted village of Tyneham :)

I know it's a cliche sort of shot but Corfe Castle is very atmospheric if you get the right conditions ;)

Dorset is a lovely area and I enjoy looking enviously at all the houses on Sandbanks.

I haven't been brave enough yet to take my tripod out in public :D:lol:

I look forward to seeing your pics though :)

Ah very kind. Linkage: http://www.milouvision.com/galleries/4159_1048088568/57197

High tide doesn't show off the bay to its best advantage. You need low tide, good spring/winter light and special anti-slip boots. Well, the last is on a wish-list.

My pal Andy has a few of the bay too: http://www.deceptivemedia.co.uk/default.asp?DtStamp=14/06/2007 01:54:00&entry=actual

And try Mark Bauer too: http://www.clikpic.com/markbauer/gallery_4307.html
