I got an email from this kid just now. He's 15 and speaks perfect txt. As they say, a picture says 1000 words so I'm just going to link to the Flickr stream.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanlawson2k8/

He wants comments from me. I can't think of anything other than "Grow the **** up." Bit lost for words really.

  Give him some comments then, it's only what he is asking for..

The album that is called " shawn johnson and nasia liukin " well "nasia" name is actully spelt nastia

Some of them pictures made me really laugh  Thanks for that

Tony

What beggers belief is that millions of pounds are being poured into the education system on an annual basis so that today's kids can at least try and master the art of writing and saying everything in decent grammar . . . then they go off and do everything in kidz stylee l33t txt spk!
I know my posts aren't always grammatically perfect (I can blame that on my partial hearing loss. It's where I do miss out a lot when it comes to conversations, however it still doesn't stop me from reading) but I never resort to using text speak.
It MIGHT be useful for flitting off quick messages on your mobile while you are in a rush but when it spills over into everyday useage then that's just being plain lazy.
Sorry if I came across a bit snobbish or a bit of an old fart in here and I do understand that some people do suffer from dyslexia but when people who are perfectly capable of preserving the English language start to use shorthand text speak in emails, on blogs or in internet forums, it sets my teeth on edge.

Ah, thats better. Oh, have to admit, some of the picture did make me chuckle quietly to myself. :)

PS: I notice there's a kid in there who should really see a doctor about his permenantly stiff middle finger. Signs of stiffening joints?

 as the mother of teenagers, I can assure you this is perfectly normal. It seems that regardless of whether they really are good kids that work hard at school and are a pleasure to be with, or absolute teenage horrors that you could gladly throw out of the nearest 10th storey window, they ALL spend their time taking pictures of each other on their phones and plastering said pics all over t'internet, and talking/writing very strangely.

...and if you think txt spk is bad, those that have no association with teens might not know this, but there is an infinitely more incomprehensible language they use...I think they call it 'back speak' or some such, and basically, they all sound like they are talking complete double dutch! Designed, naturally, to stop adults being able to understand their conversations, its sort of the modern equivalent of that old boy that used to appear regularly on Blue Peter and Magpie and talk...what was it? ...english-ees or something? Sign of age, I can't remember anything these days! Or possibly just a sign of too much exposure to teenagers :bonk:

Yes, but do they get in touch with a photographer and ask for their opinions on the shots. ?

 I'm only laughing because I've got all this to come, my two are 3 and 5 yrs....

I think da boys look well 'ard Pete, careful what you say!

 probably not, but there is always the 'ardest brass necked one that will push one step further than 'is homeez

May i humbly suggest you enjoy them for a few more years, then around the 10th birthdays, lock em up in a small cage for about a decade.... ;)

I prefer the term "grumpy old man" to "old git" but if the cap fits........

My grumpiness is not really directed at the use of txtspk although the use of "lol" at the end of every sentance does grate after a while. It is the way that yoots feel the need to pepper their speech with the vocabulary of black american rap artists that really gets my goat. It bothers me because we are losing the individuality and regional nature of the language and will soon be reduced to a ghastly homogenous transatlantic lowest common denominator.

The only slight advantage that this offers is that when one wants to speak about teenagers without them understanding it is possible to do so by using a judicious mixture of standard english and rhyming slang.

The flickr stream of the lad in question is typical of its ilk and no doubt in 100 years time will take its place in the pictorial record of the slide of British society into drunken yobbery in the early years of the 21st century.

(Yes I was young once and still am in many ways but when I was 15 mangling the language resulted in the possibility of corporal punisment at school so I did go around speaking perfect queen's english)

He's 15, getting ****ed fairly regularly by the looks of it, acting like a "gangsta" and trying to look hard with a knife. Muppet.

I'm not grumpy, just sad that he thinks that's what lifes all about :(

you guys were young once... surely? or maybe not :)
:)

I was never that young :) The txt spk isn't as bad as the knife weilding, drinking, constant swearing and the fact that half his contacts are full of porn. Its a very honest look at a teenager. He's 15, thinks he's a gangstar, plays with knives and spends his time swearing and drinking. On the other hand, what a ****ing muppet. I spent some time going through his account. He's in love with this American gymnast. He even left his mobile number for her.

I don't recall a drinking, swearing, knife wielding post it on the internet phase :p

Me neither Pete !

I recall most of my childhood and being dared to shout swearwords is one thing I remember. Even when there was no one about

I was busy building Airfix kits and sticking posters of ferraris all over my walls and getting the bus into town with a mate and just taking everything in.

I'm hardly that old :p When I was 15 I was making web pages and browsing BBS's

c'mon you old gits.. i dont know about you but i didnt go around speaking perfect queens english when i was 15 either.
you guys were young once... surely? or maybe not :)
:)

Maybe so, but I didn't go around sounding like a right konb head either.
Happily neither of my sons sound like that but then they're not chavs.

Im 16 ok not 15 and we are not all like that. Its just to chavs of the world who think there cool but there really not. At the end of the day its going to be there problem.

.

LOL I did :)
from what i remember we used to spend a lot of time shouting 'pac man, yeaaaaah' in the same way Roland Rat used to speak.
And shouting 'corrr your hard' to people in the street.

I don't think the mobile phone can be all to blame for the way teenagers spell. Look back through the years, if it was broken it had u/s for useless on it. if it was empty it had m/t. Think you can probably come up with lots more.As for being fifteen and a bit lost in life, with nothing to do like some i was taken out of school due to family circumstance and put in the shipyards as an apprentice.THerefore i never had that privilage, i went to poly tech of a night to continue studying.Bad language to those who don't know me sometimes i sound as if i have tourets the foul mouthed abuse just flows. After seeing these little darlings though from a couple of miles from where i live and occasionally suffer the over flow of, there is some credibility to selective culling of the herd. Why do they all look alike. At 16 i was a biker, one mate was a trogg another a skinhead and another couple had scooters. The good lookers with the patter for getting all the nice girl friends were smoothies.Every one was differant now? IM confused and theres no .com in it.

Yeah, it is the chavs. I am 17 and I dont go round hurliing abuse at people and wielding a knife to look 'ard. Dont think that I am perfect though, I have had my fair share of 'being a dick head'

i dnt no *** da prblm iz innit...evry1 spks like dat now, get widdit.

Kids really are t*ssers :D

Case in point: At the shell station the other day and an elderly woman was having trouble with the pay at pump. She asks a young man for help, about my age (23) and he tells her...in these words...to 'f*ck off grandma, I got more important fings to do, ite!'. No joke that's what was said, bless her she didn' know what to do. I then helped her out and sent her on her way in her little red Micra...only to get stuck behind her doing 25 down a 60 road :bang:

Not all of us are ;)

OK, just you Matt :D

I know it's not all of them, but it's a fair few...and 'a fair few' is a seemingly ever increasing number. But then again, people of all age groups cause trouble.

:D

Thats better :D

T*sser  :D

he he

I'm 23...and I still love my daily tantrums and childish moments :D

And sorry, but farting loudly in a room full of people IS funny :D

A good ol' silent but deadly? :D

he is a muppet but we all went through phases when we were kids. It doesn't mean they won't grow up to be something useful like a city banker, politician or estate agent LOL

and f you believe that then can I tempt you into buying the Eiffel Tower from me? :naughty:

Children should be locked up away form society from the age of, oh, let's say 8 until about....24

steady on lol, maybe til they're 22...

I'm all in favour of bringing back national service, 6 years and counting I've been in and it's done me nothing but good. There's a certain kind of respect and discipline you really can learn only in the Army.
