Kids Birthday Parties!...Please be careful!

Ah Sweden.

The only country more anal in it's political correctness than our own.

Just try binge drinking in the street of your local city over there!

Id be fuming if it was my kid.

Id be saying "We didnt invite your kid, cos he's a little ****" :D

No messing

There is something you're all missing about this and that is the psychological impact that things like this have on young children especially in the early years of school. Can you image how you'd feel if you were one of only two children from an entire class to be left out of a classmates birthday party? That, more than anything, is the main issue with the story. I don't think it's got anything to do with being politically correct.

There was a similar story recently about children no longer picking team members in turns because the last ones to be picked feel under appreciated.

However, the article itself is a little thin on the details so not sure entirely what other issues led to this apart from one boy not having previous invited the other and the second one had fallen out with the other.

Sometimes it's fun being the devils advocate.

surely you only invite people you like to your birthday parties, for as far back as i remember there have been people in my classes at school who i did not like nor care to socialise with, why the hell should i have invited them to my birthday party...?

i know you were playing devils advocado jaykay but lets face it if the kids that didnt get invited stopped acting like assclowns they might get an invite in future...!

Don't get me confused with JayKay, who is probably more passive and polite than I am :D

haha classic, my kids will have whoever they want at their parties. also if they don't like someone, they will not even come near my house.

hmm, so dragging it through the courts will help make them feel better??

it is a load of rhubarb, my daughter had a party and took 10 friends, judging by this, i would have had to pay for 30+???, the kid picks the people for the party, normally based on a no set by the parents, thats it. if you dont get invited to theirs, you dont invite them to yours.

Imagine if one of them kids was coloured

Thats not racist btw!

Point 1. 'Imagine if one of them kids was uncoloured.'

Point 2. I think you mean, 'people of colour'. You'll find it's a less offensive term to use. If you're suggesting that the child may be black then use the term 'black'. It's not hard. Not having a go at you, just wanted to clarify.

Hey, I'm just trying to get a discussion going. Too many back-patting threads get a bit boring.

lol, know what you mean.

I was trying my hardest to be PC as to not upset anyone!!

I know you were trying not to be offensive, but 'coloured' is definitely not the PC term to be using lol :)

My son had his 5th birthday party on the weekend.

I told him he could invite 4 mates from his class, he picked 4 mates and they got invites.

From what I could gather in the playground, none of the other kids gave a f***.

I wouldn't let my child invite everybody in his class apart from one or two kids to a party. Particularly if the invites were handed out in front of the ones that were not invited.

In my mind, that would be both rude and a bit cruel. Similarly I wouldn't invite all of my work colleagues apart from one to a party.

Should we not be trying to teach our kids to be nice to each other?

Yes, but that doesnt always happen, and thats not really the point of this thread :)

Edit: Are you saying that you would invite all your workmates, including a couple you didnt really get along with, to a party?

oh jeebus - will be interesting to read a more in-depth article about that story as I am guessing it isn't as black and white as that makes out.

That makes it seem like some poor little shy kid went around quietly handing out invitations to all but two kids in his classroom. who knows if that is the way it happened! For a teacher to stop it I would imagine it wasn't done in such a tactful way.

I am with Pete, there is such things as tact and not hurting other peoples feelings. They obviously care about that and get taught that in Sweden.

Oh FFS!
If I invite one member on here to a BBQ does that mean I will have to invite the rest of you reprobates
Hmm that should p'ss the neighbours off no end lets do it :D

^^^ Haha :D

Ive seen similar on another forum, I invite someone over for a weekend, and the ones that didnt get invited go mad!!!!

Granted its a little different now, but why should I invite you if I hate you?

It isn't about who you invite, no where in that story does it say that all the children should have been invited, just that maybe it should/could have been done in a way as to not hurt other childrens/peoples feelings

We are never far behind though are we?
It's taken two whole weeks but one of my colleagues has just told me that his daughter brought a letter home from her school in Gainsborough last night saying that party invitations are banned unless the whole class is invited. :shake:

We'll have a 50% tax rate next....Oh, hold on

I can remember, a few years ago when I was a mere sprog
( the Jurassic period I think it was :D)
If we were caught chewing gum or eating sweets, in class one teacher used to say,
Unless you have bought enough for everyone SPIT IT OUT! I never really thought much about it until now,
was that the start of the slippery downward spiral of PC? or was it just an innocent remark ?
