Been there too - its not fun and i had the op to remove my gallbladder before keyhole surgery and was left with a nice 9 inch zip
 
I've had gallbladder pain and keyhole removal. Fingers white with pain, couldn't sit, stand, lie nothing the doc gave me helped. (but I never got morphine or tramadol) And I'm told kidney stones are much worse. Brash, you have my sympathies. Hope they mend soon.

There's nothing like a bit of pain to bring out the humour in events. I choked on my cornflakes reading that and pebble dashed the computer screen. Sorry for that Gary, I feel your pain and my pennance is to clean the screen.

The expression "p***ing razor blades" is apparently no exaggeration. I know that the screams from the karzi about 50 yards along the ward from my bed were clear as a bell when someone was passing an apparently small stone...

I have been away from TP for an extended period due to ill health (had a stroke and still recoverong) but have to say that some years ago I had 4 days of renal colic from kidney stones. I would not wish that pain on my worst enemy! So 4 days in hospital drinking water and passing vile sharp calcium shapes! Get well soon BRASH. Nonus Illegitamus Carborundum....
 
I had mine lazer zapped. I had an 8mm stone stuck at the end of a 5mm tube. My whole bladder and surrounding area would cramp up at the same time as the usual knife in the side etc etc.

The Dr said I may feel some discomfort after the OP when passing urine.

He lied



I was shooting shards of glass out. I almost asked for the stone back

They won't mate. You look after you too. Sorry to hear about yer stroke.

Life always seems to have a way of kicking you in the bolloxs when yer down. Just had a family bereavement on the wifes side too. f*** me, never rains eh!!

I've had 3 `episodes` in about 8 months where I had agonising pain for a couple of hours, uncontrollable shivering & then Jaundice for a day or 2 afterwards.
The GP sent me for one of those jelly on yer belly scans @ the hospital & it confirmed I have gall-stones :( (quite a few apparently, but mainly on the small size)

I've had no symptoms for over 2 months, so decided to hold off seeing the specialist for now.

Not fussed for seeing any gory pics, Kelly, but interested in your experience. (both before and how you were afterwards)


Hospitals are way out of my comfort zone (n) It's 52 years since I had to stay in one when I had my tonsils out. :cautious:

You are right BUT we are all getting older (my 60th birthday this year)... and it seems more leaving than arriving.

The stroke was frightening but the good old NHS was fantastic (as usual) and the MRI scanners were awesome (The RUH in Bath ha 2 with a 3rd arriving in the Autumn! Now in the remit of the recovery team and they are working on getting my "shutter finger" working again.

You will be in heaven when all the stones are gone.
 
So, these kidney stones...is there a particular age group susceptible to these jaggy bastards?

I ask because I'm now just over 50 - already my world revolves around a fear/awareness of early onset Alzheimer's, bowel cancer, prostate problems, the Duke of Argyll's, and strokes. My son teases me mercilessly about going to the docs to have him stick a finger up my jacksy, just to check everything's ok. Hadn't really given kidney stones much of a thought until now, but I've added them to the list.

Well, I was sat here feeling pretty sorry for myself with my second night of god awful toothache (dentists tomorrow) and suddenly I feel so much better, thank the [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] I dont have kidney stones or gallstones, you poor b@stards have my sympthy and lots of respect.

They can affect people as young as in their teens so no age restriction, you should take your sons advice about going to the docs though, a quick finger up the arse can usually give clues about several things, for some reason my GP tends to use 3 fingers and no gloves, he always gives me a lolipop on the way out though.

Funny you should say that, I had another wee bout this afternoon. Was out of the office and had to wait about 2 hours to get back to take a pill, for all the good it did. It eased off after about 4 hours but wasn't as severe as the last time.

I've now put a couple of the Dihydrocodeine in my wallet so I've always got em handy. I'll probably get lifted (again :D).
