Well i have, and i can tell you i've never experienced pain like it in all my life!!:arghh:

Woke up at 3am last Saturday to utter hell!, even if i moved any part of my body by a mm, i'd have a sharp stabbing/tearing pain in my back which i couldn't even begin to explain.
Phoned the 111 nhs helpline, which made me an appointment at the nearest walk in centre (i'd of laughed if it didn't hurt so much when they asked if i could drive there!!).
Only had to wait two hours!!! YES, a 2 hour wait when i had an appointment! but the doctor was great, said his first guess would be kidney stones, but the bad news is theres not much he can do!
Just carry on taking the painkillers i have (had plenty of co-codamol and morphine left from my last disc bulge) and see my GP on Monday and get them to send me for scans pronto!
He also said if it gets worse go to A+E.
Well, you guessed it...it got worse and worse, so off i went to A+E later that afternoon!
There, after urine/blood tests X-rays and an ECG i was diagnosed with Renal Colic, given more pain killers, told i would receive a letter for an appoinment for a CT scan, and sent home.
Apparently it's more painful than childbirth!! and even an innocent burp results in almost collapse due to the intense pain!!!
Good news is it's eased a bit now, so could be back in work by end of the week, but wondered if anyone else has had them, and if, once you've had them, they can reoccur?
ow ow ow!:(

I've suffered from gallstones since having my son 5 years ago (one of the many delightful legacies pregnancy has left me with) and I can safely say that those are worse than childbirth, so I understand the pain you've had.

My uncle had Kidney Stones, and has had them removed via some sort of ultra high frequency treatment. From what I understand it was some sort of probe, similar to an ultrasound probe they use for a pregnancy scan, which emits a high frequency noise in the direction of the stones and breaks them up into tiny particles which you can then pass, relatively, if not totally pain free.

I've been prescribed Buscopan and Naproxen. Buscopan you might have seen advertised on TV for IBS, as it relaxes the muscles and stops the gallbladder from trying to squeeze the stones out. Naproxen is an awesome painkiller (for any bruising that's been done by the squeezing before I manage to take a Buscopan). Generally if I have an attack, these two sort it out within a few minutes. Absolute lifesavers!!

Don't know if either of these could work for kidney stones, but might be worth asking the question of your doctor...?

The hospital gave me Naproxen, but as I'm asthmatic I can't take them!
The joys of growing old eh?

Man you should get CT'ed asap - are they sure you don't have a hold up in your ureter?? Did you get an ultrasound?

Madbadger MBChB MRCP MRCGP ;-)

I have a stone in my left kidney.....hasn't caused any problems yet but was discovered during a scan for another kidney problem....I hope neither raise their ugly head......

I had trouble with Kidney stones for over 6 month July 2013-Jan 2014, worst pain ever, hospitalised several times, 3 month off work in agony and still have one left in the tissue they cant do anything about and causes problems if i over stretch or put my body in a certain position.

Was using Buscopan, Declofenic, Tramadal and Liquid Morphene for months, Tramadol means i couldnt sleep and the Morphene meant i couldn't work, however, nothing really worked as well as the stuff the community nurse used to shove up my bum hole 4 times a day (cant remember what it was) she was my neighbour so was and is still a little embarassing.

Had them twice a few years ago and yes never had pain like it. I was actually working about 10 miles from home when I had them the second time, drove home doubled up looking through the steering wheel not over it. Was in hospital for 3 day's where I was recommended to bring 5 litres of water a day to flush them out.
On the third day, early hours I felt a movement in my lower regions and peed into the container they had given me, there was a chink and there was the biggest stone I had ever seen. You'd not think it possible to pass one that size. That was it - no more pain.
