A friend (who is a mummy) asked me this one, but I basically have no idea, so I thought I'd put it to you guys ~

What sort of digicam would you recommend for a six year old girl? Priorities are budget (tight, at £20-£30) and an LCD would be ace, although perhaps not realistic.

Also, there's no need for it to be a camera designed for kids. I've seen her with other cameras which are far from idiotproof P&S type jobbies, and she's fine

I really have no idea what's available in this sort of price bracket, but surely some of you have bought similar things for your kids :)

any good?

No idea what its like - has an LCD screen though

At 3 I bought my daughter a Creative webcam that did stills and movies, it was very simple to operate having only 4 buttons (inc On/Off and Shutter!). It survived many drops and still works 5 years later.

On her 8th birthday, she's progressed to an Olympus SP510 bridge camera, she finds the very small cameras fiddly to use and prefers something more chunky.

For a young person the ability to do movies (even at VGA resolution) with sound is higher up the priority list than something with an LCD screen. Also no LCD gets them used to using a viewfinder!

At that kind of budget, I risk buying a reasonable s/h camera, there must be loads of people with 2MP cameras just gathering dust, that would do movies and have an LCD svreen.

Pete I bought that for my 3 year old son and it is fab!!! But a little too kiddie for a girl the age of 6 plus the pics aren't big enough for anythign over 4x6.

She bought the pink one :D
I'll let you all know how it goes!
