looking to buy a new car .. yes I know they lose a fortune as soon as I drive it out the garage!

Looking at basic cars with decent boot - the very small town cars would struggle to get my shopping in and I only shop for 1 person !

I do not drive many miles, so not fussed on air con or lots of bells and whistles.

Have been looking at the KIA Rio1.

Anyone got any experience of KIA cars?

Thanks

June

I have done lots of web searches and reading but was just wondering of anyone on here had any personal experience :)

We have had a Kia Soul 2 1.6 petrol for the last 12 months or so, It's very good. I know it's a different model to the one you're considering but in general terms Kia seem to have gone from just a cheap "so so" Asian manufacturer to one well worth considering. The 7 year warranty helps of course, but I haven't needed to use it at all. Not the most sophisticated or even most economical cars I would think, but my experience of Kia has been one of reliability and decent enough comfort. The local dealer is fine although I suppose as with all things this can vary.

I haven't gone into the pros and cons of the Soul, just tried to comment on the make. If you do consider that model I'm quite happy to tell you more. Suffice to say we've no regrets at all.

cheers

I have a Kia Rio and not only is the car excellent value for money but the service is excellent too. In fact I've had a lot less issues with it then my Meriva. My last 2 vauxhalls have been cr@p. and due to the authorised dealer refusing to accept that any of the problems, including 2 while still under warranty, I will never by another Vauxhall despite me proving to them that it was faulty and needed a part that wasn't one that should need replacing after time!

Can't comment on Kia...but plenty of experience with Hyundai from new. Avoid like the plague. Their customer service is appalling.

Ive got a Kia Ceed Diesel estate, fantastic car only let down by the sack cloth seat material, 2013 models onward uprated the cloth to something very nice

Depends what you buy :)

I've heard good things about KIA lately. If you just want cheap reliable motoring, you can't really go wrong. Good warranty apparently too.

Boring.. no soul.... but if that doesn't bother you, then I'd say go for it.

Well the Rio has a Mazda B series engine which is pretty much bulletproof, Im still razzing about with my 1992 vintage B6, and my 1988 vintage B3 (same as the Rio engine) would still be razzing about too if I hadn't planted it in a hedge. As for the cars, we had a Sedona, it was OK in a no frills kind of way, was quite nice but it didn't wear well. Was doing a lot of mileage mind.

Dad's got a Cee'd 1 which his owned from new for 4 years, pretty basic but comfortable and reasonably economic to run.

He's definitely not a car person so that fact that it's functional and gets him where he needs to go with no fuss is good enough for him

To put it into context, his last 2 cars were a G-reg Maestro and N-reg Vectra which........... To him the Cee'd is like a Rolls Royce

I got a Kia.

It goes when you press the go pedal, stops when you press the stop pedal and goes more or less where you point it.

If that's all you need, they're perfect.

I have had a 1.5 diesel Rio 07 plate for just over a year, great little car and it only cost £3500 when I brought it, a lot of car for the money.

It's nothing special, but it does the job nicely and I have never been a car mad person.
