I shoot motorsports.
I shoot small JPG to one card and large JPG to another.
I download small JPG during event and wait until after the event for large JPG. It means I can push pictures to social media quickly and easily.
I import them to Lightroom into separate folders. Filenames should be the same.

To save time, I keyword the small JPGs, I use a program called Textexpander which holds a list of race numbers, and entering /racenumber brings up all the keywords associated with that car and driver.

Now, is it possible within Lightroom, Mac OS, Automator or some other app, to take the keywords from a low-res photo and apply them to the high-res photo in the other folder, by matching filenames?

If you're going to use ExifTool, or any other software like it, always make copies of you files beforehand, in case of snafus.

And Exiftool is a VERY powerful program - i once managed to remove the Exifs on RAW files which made them virtually unusable - luckily I had backed them up first.

Thanks both for the replies.

Last night I found a plug in for Lightroom called Syncomatic by John Beardsworth which does exactly the job I want. Will also copy over lightroom adjustments, ratings, colour flags.
No shell scripting, no command line work needed, and chances of wiping the planet are much less.

Demo version does 10 images at a time, the paid for plug in is about £ 7
