Possibly looking to change my Apple keyboard. It's the narrow one without the numbers pad and delete button. Give the wider Apple version is £180, I'm considering getting a 3rd party version. Something along the lines of Logitech MX. Anyone have any experience of using 3rd party keyboards with Macs or have any recommendations? It's for general typing, not gaming.

TIA

I'd go for a used apple one rather than chucking third party into the mix. The older wired ones will probably be loads cheaper.

If you don't do fleabay then https://bramley-computers.co.uk/ is worth checking out as they might have one knocking about.

Apple do a cheaper wide one: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MQ052B/A/magic-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad-british-english?

Also a 10 day battery life on that Logitech sounds low. .. Product info says 10 days or 20 weeks which is a bit of a wide range.

I bought one of THESE
Mine was white/silver but they are out of stock - worked really well. :)

It is the Touch ID one that is £180, the other one is £130.

It doesn't look like the old wired one is still available from Apple. I think it was about £79

Thanks all

I really do want a wireless one and even £130 is too much at the moment.

I actually have a wired full width one but I spilled water over it a few years ago and the bottom row of letters don't work.

Squirt some contact cleaner all over the bottom row and leave it to dry out for an hour. You might get lucky and it will work ok again.

I tried number of things at the time and managed to recover all but the bottom row of keys before giving up. As I said, I'm looking for a wireless one now but I'm in no rush.

I got one of these Link for my secondary imac when a keyboard had water spilled on it. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and it’s been absolutely spot on. USB charging but to be fair I’ve only charged it twice so far, and it’s quick to wake from sleep and I’ve not suffered any drop outs from Bluetooth at all.

Anyone know how to get the long apple keyboards apart?
I managed to stop mine from working by getting it wet.

Just looking at mine and my guess would be screws under the rubber feet
I just watched a video of someone dismantling one.
They are held together by a sheet of double sided adhesive. Even if I got it apart and made it work I don't have the materials to put it back together.

Another £119 down the pan. :banghead:

The MX has backlit keys (like the keyboards on Apple's MacBook Pro laptops) that light up when the keyboard senses your hand approaching.

If you have the backlight feature turned on, you get the quoted 10 day battery life; turn off the backlighting and it can go for up to 5 months without a recharge.

I have an MX keyboard on the way - the ability to switch Bluetooth connection between three different devices is what attracts me.

I use Bluetooth keyboards with both my Imacs. They work with no problems and each cost just shy of £30 from PC World.

^ brilliant! I hadn't realised they are discontinued. Great price and will match my MPB...
