Keter Apex Shed Plastic 8 x 11 x 7'

I'd be a bit wary about the quality of the fittings, we have one of those Keter storage boxes and the door hinges were very soft plastic and all 4 tore within a few weeks. Keter replaced them and they've been OK so far, but now the lock catch has broken in half, I jury-rigged some metal brackets to it to fix it but thats a lot of failures in just 6 months.

I've had one of those cheap Argos tin sheds up for 6 years so far and that's doing fine apart from needing a coat of metal paint.

Why a plastic one and not good quality wood? (Especially at that price)

We have a Keter storage box (one with doors on the front and a lift up top). It works well but within a month of getting it some low life tried to break into it so I had to do a bit of work to secure it. Otherwise it works well, so I guess their sheds would be OK too. Is your site exposed? If so, I would then not be too happy about using what is going to be a fairly light shed. However, they do have the advantage of taking no looking after but are quite expensive.

BTW Don't know if your link was just an illustration of the shed you are interested in, or if you were going to buy it from Screwfix. If you were going to get it from Screwfix, have a look at the same from Argos - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1072903.htm

It is a lot cheaper.

My first house only cost 250 quid more!

Did it come with a Mastodon rug and a new club for keeping the Mrs in check?

I'll get me coat....... :exit:

Sounds like where I grew up.

I remember my parents saying that at the time, they couldn't get a mortage that would cover the £200 difference between the 4 Bed detached cemetery gate house they wanted, and the three bed terrace they wound up with.

Jebus £1000 for a plastic shed  that's a bit pricey

Don't know where the OP is, but I'm pretty sure a couple of local shed builders would provide a very good quality wooden shed for less than that. And it would be more substantial and less prone to condensation (which can be a more of a problem with plastic and metal sheds).

Something similar to us then Ruth. We had to take out an insurance policy to cover the difference of £150.
Things (finance) was so much simpler in those days!

This!

Thank you all for the comments. The reason for going for a plastic one is that it does not require any aftercare like a wood one does.

Don't want to go for the metal one due to condensation, and cannot afford to get a concrete one built at the moment.

I have seen it cheaper in argos.

Was going to buy a 8 *10 lifetime one from Costco as they have better review, and it was for £800, but just my luck it has been discontinued and they are very expensive from other seller's.

Paint it when it goes up, paint it again five years later..

You'll be pressure washing the algae off a plastic shed every summer.

I seriously doubt that, we have a Keter double wheelie Bin store and its over 10 years old and never been cleaned once, the green top has faded from being in direct sunlight but i would say its 95% as new

For the amount of maintenance a good wooden shed takes I just don't get it....c'est la vie I suppose.

Very Similar, different coloured roof, thats probably an updated model as mines is ten years old, mine was also specifically sold as a wheelie bin store.

Thank you

Thanks. I have ordered the xl one from amazon warehouse. Just waiting on delivery and hoping it is in a good condition.
I just want something to put the lawn mower and a few bits in until I decide on a proper shed.

A THOUSAND pounds for a plastic shed? Is it too late to mention that my local shed firm make them in cedar? No maintenance.... Cost a bit more, bit not a grand.

Knowing my luck if I get a wood one I have will have issues, so thinking of getting a plastic one.

Ideally I would like to get a brick one built but cannot afford it at the moment.

IIRC, a brick one would require planning consent while wood, plastic and bolt together concrete ones are considered "temporary erections" so don't.

Shouldn't have any bother with a good quality wood (have I mentioned tiger sheds??!).

For what you're spending on plastic you could get a much much nicer and/or bigger ( if you wanted ) wood.

Thanks. Neil I did have a quick look at tiger sheds. Just ordered the keter store it out xl for now and will take my time deciding what to go for.

Depends on your local planning departments view of the guidelines but GENERALLY in the back garden it's fine, in the front garden it may need PP regardless of construction.

Also, planning laws have got a lot looser since I last checked them. I can't imagine anybody getting in trouble for a genuine shed-sized shed these days.

The store it out xl was delivered today and it will be okay for the lawn mower but looking at the build quality I have to agree with you all, I will have to get a wooden shed.

So with so many different types which is the best one to get. T and g, pressure treated etc...

Neil any suggestions as to which one to go for from tiger sheds.

I have decided to go for one under £500 if possible and at least 8 by 8.

Thank you
