Kentmere 100 and 400

Tried it in 35mm a number of years ago and found it quite grainy, looking at examples on line, they also seem grainy so I am surprised to see it described as "fine grain"

Update - it's due to be officially released 1/12/22. It seems Firstcall have not kept with the request from the manufacturer to keep it under wraps till then!

I'll be placing my order with my regular non-Firstcall supplier on 1st Dec. If I like it in 120 it will replace Foma as my 1st choice for cheap 120.

This is interesting. I have for a long time been using Rollei RPX 100 and 400, which in 35mm is (supposedly) repackaged Kentmere (100/400 respectively) and is also repackaged as Agfaphoto APX 100/400.

In 120, the only available of the three brands was until now the RPX 100/400. This is an extraordinary film IME. I tried both and settled on the 400. In 120, this looks great in D76/Xtol and is essentially grainless.

So it will be interesting to see if this new 120 Kentmere is yet another repackaging of the "franchise" or something different entirely. Either way excellent news. I will likely end up buying the cheapest of the lot.

If I didn't already have lots of Fomapan I would try these films. I like the 35mm versions which produce negatives much like films I (and my dad) used long ago (and far away).

I assume it was manufactured October this year so 2 years is fine with me. I purchased some of the 35mm version recently and that has an expiry date of 08/2024 so it seems all Kentmere has a maximum 2 year expiry date. I'll happily use the films in 2025 or 26 but I don't think they will hang about that long :)

I'd bought 3 Fomapan the week before from Morco. If I'd known the Kentmere 120 was being released then I would have left the Fomapan alone! However the Foma is ideal for testing my new C3.

I've also bought the 120 from Morco and got a couple of 24 exp 35mm rolls to try out older cameras. The 400 is dated Feb 2025 and the 100 is dated April 2026.
